If they actually do the things their corrupt benefactors really want them to do it'll expose how they are totally in the pockets of their oligarch power brokers that are looking for ways to legitimize their efforts at seizing the nation and creating a plutocracy directly rather than indirectly as they do now. The Republican party is nothing but a front, a hoax showcase window dressing that their actual unelected bosses operate their shadow gov't through. And they've got an army of millions of dupes keeping them in the business of influencing gov't policy in their favor. What a racket that is.

The GQP is constantly finds ways to hit rock bottom. Their only natural behavior is to resist and obstruct. They are literally incapable of governing or making a bold decision that benefits more than their political goals.

McConnell asked Lankford to negotiate this bill. In the Senate they need 60 votes(cloture) in order to move most bills forward. The cloture would effectively end any filibuster. So McConnell is basically asking Senators to not vote for cloture on a bill he asked one of his members to negotiate and he publically supported earlier that morning. Or basically filibuster the bill. So the bill will not come up for a vote.
And because McConnel is asking everyone not to vote for cloture, Lankford who wrote the bill may not even vote for cloture or for the Bill to be able to voted on. Nutty.

Timeline to date

Trump 2018 says he needs an Immigration Reform bill. Doesn't get it done. Does not close the border
Biden 2021 Submits a Bill Jan 21 for Immigration reform. Says it is needed.
Republicans May 2023 HR-2. Build wall asylum changes, e-verify requirements and more border agents
Dec 2023 Republican insist Israel, Ukraine and border be combined. Senate negotiates.
Jan 2024 Trump starts calling the House to reject bill. Trump also says he wants the border to fail to help him
Jan 2024 Speaker of the House and Trump start trashing the bill BEFORE they read it.
Feb 2024 Senate releases bill. Republicans start lying about it's contents. Mitch McConnell who helped craft the bill now tells member they can vote against it. Republicans NOW say a bill isn't needed.

How did we get here???

Yup, this is where you wish Biden had had some foresight into this. Why remove the Remain in Mexico policy to give your opponents more ammo against you? And then you promote "bipartisan " legislation that may not have been even been necessary if the prior law had not been revoked in the first place. Silly run around games.

For once it would be nice to see the Dems try to proactively take away GOP talking points before letting it turn into a potential issue.

Remain in Mexico wasn't a law, it was an executive policy, and a fairly bad one at that.

Biden could now get points for trying to work in a bipartisan fashion, which idiots in this country really love, and Republicans get to be blamed for sinking the bill.

Remain in Mexico was started and stopped by Biden because it was tied up in the courts.

The new law would settle this.

Mexico also has to agree to re-implement it and has thus far refused to consider doing so.

Add more justices how? Last time I checked, that justice number is set by statute, so good luck passing a law at the current juncture. It's also very much an idea that you would want to make sure you could get passed, lest you burn all your political capital in a futile effort.

Why is Biden going to get the blame here? The bill was basically reported as a bipartisan bill that had a laundry list of GOP-approved provisions, which then the GOP in the House said "no" to and sunk it.

Seems like you just want to wishcast/doomcast.
