This is not an uncommon event. Even before DOGE.

In the United States, an estimated 12,200 living people are mistakenly declared dead annually by the Social Security Administration (SSA).

You FUCKING IDIOT!!!

SSA was doing their jobs. fElon is only doing what the felon in chief is trying to do: destroy our democracy from within by fomenting FUD and making it more difficult to survive.

How does making someone appear in person stop fraud?

Show a Valid picture ID and they can actually see you and match you to the ID. Over a phone call or the internet you could be anybody.

I would rather do that than have someone steal my identity and my SS.

"Showing valid ID" worked great when someone used a fraudulent ID to rent a car in person in name. So again, how does appearing in person help?

There are plenty of ways to validate people electronically, by mail, or over the phone (including using a combination of things).

I'm not arguing about what the BEST Method would be to verify... That is the way they chose... Meh.

Better a few hundred thousand legitimate SS beneficiaries starve than a couple of fraudulent SS beneficiaries get benefits revoked using the existing process that doesn't cause hundreds of thousands of legitimate SS beneficiaries to starve.

It's a death cult.

Pcgeek is a 88 lover and evil. That is clear. A traitor to America. A coward and enabler of avarice.

Not at all.
I just don't go along with "That is how we have always done it" as you all seem satisfied with.
I'm not defending the status quo. But if you want to rock the boat, it should at least be justified. Hand waving at fraud isn't an excuse.

Show us how much fraud is actually costing. Show us how much extreme countermeasures will cost. And show us how much normal people will be inconvenienced or wrongly denied benefits because of new technical hurdles.

Locking a system down so tightly that fewer people can get their legally entitled benefits because you're so afraid of nearly non-existent or low levels of fraud seems kind of like a big waste of money and counter productive.

I love how I can be trusted by the IRS to handle the government's tax money without proof of who I am, but they need proof to fulfill a congressional mandate.

I had to drive 50 miles this month to get my drivers license renewed and to have my vision tested at the DMV.

Or I would have to pay an eye doctor to provide certification of my vision and have it done by mail.

Them bastards!

Oh , you can still drive? Cool! You can volunteer to drive the invalids to the SS office to prove they’re not unalived. All because Nazis want them dead.

Lucky motherfucker. These people went to renew their licenses and got killed:

Three people were killed in a shooting at a Department of Motor Vehicles office near Louisville, Kentucky, on Friday (February 21). The incident occurred around noon at the Driver Licensing Regional Office on Dixie Highway, just north of Interstate 265. According to the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD), one man died at the scene, while two women succumbed to their injuries after being taken to the University of Louisville Hospital.

Be pissed at the state for providing such shitty service. Don’t you live in Charleston? How scarce are DMV offices on the ground in South Carolina?
