This is to prevent theft of SS Payments. They need to ensure you are who you say you are.

I agree they should not be closing SS Offices. They probably need to open more.
They will close them anyway because Trump/Musk don’t give a fuck about elderly people on SS. You know the kind of behavior you approve.

I had to drive 50 miles this month to get my drivers license renewed and to have my vision tested at the DMV.

Or I would have to pay an eye doctor to provide certification of my vision and have it done by mail.

Them bastards!
And if you were disabled then fuck you. Just like Trump wants

Be pissed at the state for providing such shitty service. Don’t you live in Charleston? How scarce are DMV offices on the ground in South Carolina?

There are some closer to me but in Charleston traffic it would take three times as long as I am not in Charleston but in the area.
The local DMV is always packed and takes hours in line.
St George (county seat) is never packed and only takes a 15 - 30 minutes to get to a clerk. I'd rather spend the time driving than waiting in line...

Sounds like you need to demand the state improve the situation. Michigan used to suck, during Covid they implemented an appointments system, allowed most people to renew through the mail and online, introduced kiosks at stores for things like renewing plates as well as online and now I haven’t had to wait longer than a couple of minutes for things that have to be done in person.

You can do it by mail or online IF you pay for an eye exam and have the doctor file the paperwork with the DMV.
Or you can just go to the DMV and they will check your eyes for free.

I'm complaining in sarcasm.

I get it, I'm just telling you it can be much better. In Michigan after a certain age you have to do it in person but with the changes they made during Covid the experience is much improved even when you have to go in person. The DMV doesn't have to suck is all I'm saying and that's probably on your Secretary of State to fix.

-Yeah actually shocked how functional my local DMV is.

I too grew up on the DMV boomer memes but for most things a kiosk will get you sorted and for anything more complex make an appointment and bring your paperwork and you're in and out in 30 minutes.

This is California Bay Area btw.

While we're at it my local post office is also startlingly functional as well.

Just got new tags in Michigan. Stopped at the grocery store picked up some things and got new tags on the way out. Easy peasy

They blew chunks in the old days because you couldn't google what you needed before you got there, so everyone had to do it 2-3 times unless you happened to remember what you needed the last decade you did it (and it hadn't changed since then).

Now there's little excuse for fucking up your paperwork and so even if you don't have a printer at home to prep stuff in advance you shouldn't need to be there more than 30m unless everyone else sucks too.

Just to add for elderly people having to take care of SS problems An Advance Designation of Representation coupled with a Limited Power of Attorney should cover all the bases you would need.

From the Social Security website:

Advance Designation of Representative Payee
You have the option to designate someone you trust to receive and manage your benefit payments in the event you become unable to do so yourself.

You have the option to designate someone you trust to receive and manage your benefit payments on your behalf in the event you become unable to do so yourself.

SSA refers to this person as a representative payee. A representative payee is responsible for ensuring that payments are used for the beneficiary's food, shelter, medical, and personal needs. To be appointed as a representative payee, an individual must be able and willing to serve, and meet SSA selection requirements.
To learn more about representative payees, visit https://www.ssa.gov/payee.
To name or update your advance designees, please have their phone numbers available. Select the button below to continue with advance designation.

I don't even have to do that. I pay my taxes and registration and they mail them to me.

I’m amazed even the Trump lovers who say SS screwups and cuts are bad couldn’t foresee this coming.

Most of us before the election knew it would happen

wow! how can they possibly verify you without making you appear in person and show an ID????

Really sounds like you're making an argument here that it can indeed actually be done!

There is a huge difference between an license plate renewal and a monthly SS Check. But that doesn't fit your narrative does it.

But dirty brown illegals can get plates so they can go around and raping women.

Without verifying they are legal how are we going to stop raping?

There is always another boogeyman with republicans. None of them even come close to the real problems we are facing moving forward. All these boogeymen only serve to divide Americans and cause paranoia. They also sow the seed for destroying whatever they target that benefits the American people. It's a constant fire hose of hate and fear. These are the reasons I stopped being a republican many moons ago.

The biggest fraudsters in the US are republican politicians. Especially those in the white house.

You puppets should cut your strings and think freely.

Empathy is a lot rarer than presumed.

Empathy is so rare as to be rather a useless trait. Most people only have it in relation to people similar to themselves, which means it tends to be a very discriminatory quality and thus causes more political harm than good.

It's the old "We don't mind cuz you don't matter" attitude of the wealthy afflicted with affluenza that's become quite the rage now that Elon is making it more popular than ever. And there's millions upon millions of Trumpers that are having their pockets picked by the oligarchs and whether they know it or not, they either do it gladly of which I have no idea why or they're too stupid and clueless to care. A veritable match made in hell for the working class numbnuts while being so heavenly for the robber barons.

Why are you babbling about something unrelated to what I am saying?
