So he had a totally routine MRI at his second annual exam and doesn't even know what it was for? (Or was this another MRI beyond the one he got around his second, totally normal annual exam that was 6 months after the first?).

Just because people are doing something in a lab doesn't mean it is anywhere close to being ready for the translational component of human trials. There are certainly drugs to help with his potential condition, and many clinical trials underway, but the options aren't that great, and there isn't some secret "good stuff" available on the side. If it was good, companies would actually push to get approval and market it because there is a market so large, it would dwarf whatever money a rich person could put up for it on their own.
