I hope they have the candidates listed in a poster inside the polling booth so people can copy the names. I am not sure I can spell my MP's last name.

Edit: I see the video explains there will be a booklet with candidate names.

Justin has a date with Katy Perry so he has that going for him.
The best thing is, on Canadian political boards, they keep saying us libs have TDS. Like Maple MAGA just hypocrites like to our neighbour to the south with how much they are raging about this date

Northern Texas outwits itself? this is a funny read about Alberta and their conservative government

-conservative government of north texas wanted to introduce a new law allowing recalls (?)
-conservatives now mad that people are using this to recall conservative politicians and threatening their majority

From the UCP perspective today, they made a big mistake in that 2021 law.

It does not specify any grounds for recall. There’s nothing about an MLA being immune to challenge except for serious violations of ethics, code of conduct, conflict of interest, downright thievery or other such obvious disqualifiers.

my favorite part -

In Nicolaides’ formal response to his Calgary-Bow tormentors, he said: “A recall of an MLA should not proceed when the statement reason is dissatisfaction with government policy rather than a failure in the member’s core duties . . . Recalls should be reserved for breaches of public trust, ethical violations or dereliction of duty.”

He’d obviously love that to be true, but there’s nothing of the sort in the Recall Act.

Nicolaides himself was gung-ho for recall back in 2015, right after the NDP was elected.

He said on Twitter at the time: “I prefer recall that is available regardless of the motivation.

“It should be available with no strings attached . . . recall should be legislated at all levels of government.”

Sounds great, until it’s aimed at you.

Some weirdness on that one as he later clarified that he isn't leaving soon, more likely in the spring.

Maybe he was getting pushback (IOW hate from other conservatives) on rumors and was forced to clarify his position sooner than he wanted to.
I wonder if it is some sort of pension calculus.

Honestly I think there should be another election fairly soon.

A majority mandate should be given by the voters not by MP's crossing the floor. Let them seek re-election under the Liberal party.

This is coming from a Carney supporter.
I think every crossing triggers a by-election is the way to do it. I am against risk free floor crossing.

There’s absolutely no way the US will allow Canadians to cross the border in Chinese EVs. American automakers don’t want Americans to see these shiny new cars that are 10 years ahead of anything they can buy and half the price.
i was seeing quite a few new chinese vehicles on the road in the Dominican Republic, nice big trucks, suv's

Mixed feeling about that. Not happy to be helping Xi, but we don't have much choice with what is happening with Donny.
Why not just do what Chinese manufacturers did to Western companies? Ie, take the external help and assistance setting up factories, then figure out how to improve on their stuff and spin off your own companies to compete.

First we need to ensure that the Chinese EVs will pass NA standards. Also Xi has turned off the innovation fund tap so who knows what company will survive.
