Northern Texas outwits itself? this is a funny read about Alberta and their conservative government
Danielle Smith and her Alberta UCP face a wave of recall challenges that could threaten her majority. She could repeal the law.

-conservative government of north texas wanted to introduce a new law allowing recalls (?)
-conservatives now mad that people are using this to recall conservative politicians and threatening their majority
From the UCP perspective today, they made a big mistake in that 2021 law.
It does not specify any grounds for recall. There’s nothing about an MLA being immune to challenge except for serious violations of ethics, code of conduct, conflict of interest, downright thievery or other such obvious disqualifiers.
my favorite part -
In Nicolaides’ formal response to his Calgary-Bow tormentors, he said: “A recall of an MLA should not proceed when the statement reason is dissatisfaction with government policy rather than a failure in the member’s core duties . . . Recalls should be reserved for breaches of public trust, ethical violations or dereliction of duty.”
He’d obviously love that to be true, but there’s nothing of the sort in the Recall Act.
Nicolaides himself was gung-ho for recall back in 2015, right after the NDP was elected.
He said on Twitter at the time: “I prefer recall that is available regardless of the motivation.
“It should be available with no strings attached . . . recall should be legislated at all levels of government.”
Sounds great, until it’s aimed at you.
