This is a big news story. Cliff notes: Troy Davis was convicted in 1989 for killing an off-duty police officer. Conviction was based almost solely on eyewitness testimony. Seven of the nine eyewitnesses have recanted their testimony saying if we knew back then what we know now our decision would have been different. People on both sides of the death penalty issue have weighed in and have said execution needs to be stayed. Strange mix of the likes of Bob Barr, Al Sharpton, Pope Benedict, Jimmy Carter along with a former Georgia prison warden in charge of carrying out the death penalty.

Georgia had scheduled the execution for 7p EDT but has delayed pending an answer from the US Supreme Court.

From what I've seen there is more then enough resonable doubt to stay the execution so it can be reviewed.

I noticed the Fox News talking heads are not covering this story. I think Tea Partiers cheering 235 executions in Texas like a bunch of Romans and Rick Perry never losing sleep over death penalty cases could put their loyal follers in trouble, considering the mounting doubt coming to light in this case.

And MSNBC is giving massive coverage. Fox: they report issues that serve their agenda, you decide from the warped information they give you.

William Sessions, former director of the FBI doesn't come out for staying an execution because of serious doubt about guilt very often; he did here.

To add to the summary of doubt from Homer, one of the two remaining eyewitnesses is said by ten other witnesses to be who they think did the murder.

There is no physical evidence that he did the murder.

Executing an innocent person is one of the few wedge issues that would be a problem for execution-cheering politicians and their followers who oppose that.

Rick Perry was asked if he had any concern about his 236 executions, and he said Texas has such a great process that there is no doubt.

This month, the US Supreme Court blocked the execution of a Texan the state approved for execution, when 'expert testimony' in the sentencing was found to have said that the jury should consider that he is more dangerous to society because he's black. The Court disagreed with Perry how great the process was.

Yeah, now that you civilized folks have changed from the Ned Kelly days of doing it yourself, you just expect other countries to do it for you.

Wow, that's some awsome data you have there.

One guys said something so that must mean Australians believe in capital punishment.

Yeah, just one guy - who just happens to be the Prime Minister, saying that another country should do the capital punishment for them in the ancient days of yore all of 4 years ago.

Yeah, a conservative, old fashioned prime minister.

Fortunately, we don't let crazy right wingers dominate our national policys.

I think Rick Perry will have to answer this in more then just his normal simplistic Texas two-step

Blacks are more dangerous to society, that is a fact.

2009 Totals
Murders by whites 5,286
Murders by blacks 5,890

White population 72.4%
Black population 12.6%

The issue in that case is only about sentencing, not about guilt. The guy did the crime. There is no dispute of that.

He should have been given a new sentencing hearing back when the other 5 got theirs. I am not sure why the courts never did that. The other five guys all got re-sentenced to death.

If the Supreme Court acts, they will likely just order a new sentencing hearing. He is fortunate that Texas has passed legislation to allow life without parole, where as the other guys who got new sentencing hearings, the only options at the time were life with parole, or death, and thats likely why they got death. Since Texas has had life without parole, Texas has a much lower number of new death sentences.

I'm fundamentally against capital punishment simply because how flawed our justice system is and I think we needlessly put innocent people to death.

With that said, I don't know what to think of Troy Davis. Apparently he was also convicted of shooting someone earlier that night of the cop killing?

I have a big problem with this case:

http://www.chron.com/news/houston-t...ution-stayed-in-Montgomery-County-2082425.php

Basically the victim is scientifically proven to have died AFTER the guy has been in bars. Texas is still trying to execute him.

Your routine is really old - in fact you're just boring now. We get it, you're a racist xenophobe with a shitty attitude who thinks Australia can do no wrong.
