I agree. The final price will depend on how good the performance is. It it is overpriced initially, the cost will soon come down. Just look at the FX9370. It has dropped to 199.00 on new egg.

$199.00 is for the CPU alone, without heat-sink fan. 299.00 was with the watercooler kit and now that dropped to $219,99. Now that is one hell of a price for that combo.

The FX 9000 series were highly-priced initially because they weren't meant for enthusiast consumption at that time. AMD literally said that in a press release, that they would get released to retail officially later on. And the moment they did, the prices were much lower and they were available in actual PIB packaging.

As for Kaveri, I doubt the actual price will be overpriced at launch, since retailers/e-tailers love to price-gouge at launch often. Most likely the 7850k will replace the 6800k in the $150 bracket (even though the 6800k has already dropped by $10) Pricing the APU at ~$200 makes no sense because these APUs were never meant to be in said price bracket. They're meant to compete with i3's and lower-end i5's.

Only on FM2+ boards unfortunately. Regular FM2 is limited to 1080 or 1200p. You can of course use the dual-link DVI port to get to 1600p, any higher and its all displayport.

I'm not sure what happens if you plug an FM2 APU into an FM2+ socket though. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable could clarify... :hmm:

i believe the pin layout is different to prevent that.

No, FM2 chips fit just fine into FM2+ boards, it's the inverse that wouldn't work. Kaveri has two additional pins on the package, which prevents it from fitting into FM2 sockets.

I was hoping they'd pull a deal like that. :) Though I was hoping for something like Thief instead of Battlefield 4, I don't really fancy a super-broken "buy all our map packs" online shooter...

Well BF4 vanilla version costs around 38-40e alone so one can just sell the key online and lower the price of 7850K :D

Nice marketing move :)

Yep this will basically force reviews to bench BF4 + Mantle if they weren't going to do it already. Depending on Mantle performance this could leap Kaveri into GT650 territory. Obviously those high-end gamers who were gonna buy BF4 already have so the keys won't cost nearly so much.

It's pretty smart thinking all around, I'm starting to get suspicious about AMD's marketing team these day.

Bundle BF4 to Kaveri says more about how little BF4 sells vs expected. Last time I checked they had only sold 1/3rd of what BF3 had in the same timeframe.

BF3 didnt launch into a gigantic console rotation. That is going to take a bite out of pc gaming in general.

a) Published sales figures don't usually include digital sales
b) It had a staggered release- PC and last-gen first, next gen later. No doubt a lot of console gamers waited to get Battlefield 4 until they had a next gen console to release it on.

But hey, I'm not going to question the motives. Free stuff for me! (Although they make all their money off DLC these days anyway, sigh.)

(hint hint, make a PS4 version of a APU that can be sold to consumers that want PCs)

I wouldn't want one of those in a PC. Sure, it would play games decently, but the performance general purpose computing would be pretty bad. Like slower than Llano bad.

As far as Kaveri pricing goes, I wouldn't be surprised if it was higher. It should be. The extra features packed into the chip are well worth it.

Prices seams to be close to reality,
Also, i have the feeling there will only be two(2) Kaveri SKUs, at least in the beginning(7580K and 7700K). Rest of the line will still be Ritchland.

Reports previously stated that the initial Kaveri launch would be three SKU's: Two A10's and one A8. We now know what the two A10's specs are, but know nothing of the A8.

What troubles me more about this is that only two SteamRoller SKUs are going to be launched in January - the other two new SKUs are based on Piledriver.

More SKU's will launch gradually. As I said, there will be two A10's and one A8 initially.

I wonder if its GloFos ability to supply yet again. Xbox One for example, that will be moved to GloFo, is now scheduled for Q3 2014 in the Nordic countries.

All we know is that "console APUs" will be made at GloFo; we don't know which console, and we don't know whether it will now be made exclusively at GloFo, or whether GloFo is now a second source providing APUs in addition to TSMC. So your analysis of the XBox One situation leaves quite a lot to be desired. ;)

The rollout delay probably has more to do with localisation issues. Kinect has a LOT of voice control commands; translating them into multiple different languages probably takes a long time, and tuning in the voice control for various different accents and dialects. Norwegian, Swedish and Danish are very complex languages which are very dissimilar to other European languages, and with relatively few speakers compared to other languages. Not surprised that their launch dates slipped. (Though it does suck for you guys. :( )

I don't think it is.

AMD should be bound to production quotas, and huge penalties if they don't reach it. Keep in mind that while the console APU are a perfect fit for their venture with Globalfoundries, they started with TSMC, and my guess is that they had to go down that path because of the time frames and quotas established in the agreement with MSFT and Sony.

The move to Globalfoundries should happen as capacity becomes available, and they should complement their production quota with TSMC products. MSFT and Sony couldn't care less about AMD and WSA.

Actually no. Danish and English are very similar, and have the same roots in (North)Germanic, to the point where there is a derogatory term for people who mix Danish-English in common speech (Dengish, something that seems endemic to journalists in particular). Danish wording is more influenced by High German then English is however. Danish grammar is actually even easier then English grammar. Problem is that we have plenty of words with dual (even triple/quadruple in some cases) meaning and/or are context sensitive. Danish is also chock full of irony, something that can confuse the heck out of anybody who is not a native speaker. Then there is the problem with Æ, Ø and Å. I have yet to meet a native English speaker that can get those 100% right. Not for lack of trying, which can be quite hilarious... :D (for me that is... ;))

Also Swedish, Danish and Norwegian, while being mutually intelligible are quite different languages. Think something along Spanish/Portuguese.

Sorry for being OT, couldn't resist... ;)

That would be good news, ie no dual-core salvage parts from quad core dies = extremely good yield. This isn't really a surprise due to the year delay which was probably down to a clock speed issue rather than anything wrong with yield.
