Trooper Getting Manicure Loses Post
Officer Removed From Airport Assignment

BOSTON -- A Massachusetts State Police trooper is under investigation after he was photographed while apparently getting a manicure while in uniform at Logan airport.

The photograph was supplied to TheBostonChannel.com by a passenger who spotted the trooper while walking to her gate at the airport last Friday.

State Police said they began an investigation after Team 5 Investigates forwarded the picture. The trooper has been removed from his airport assignment, a source told NewsCenter 5.

The woman who took the picture asked to remain anonymous, but she said, "This is what I am paying taxes for?"

"The Department would not condone such activity by a member who is on-duty or in uniform," said spokesman David Procopio.

The passenger did not know if the trooper was on-duty. A source told NewsCenter 5 that he was transferred to the Danvers State Police barracks.

"Such activity by a uniformed member is not representative of the core values of the Massachusetts State Police," Procopio said.

The department said it would not release the name of the trooper because it is policy not to identify officers who are the subject of an internal investigation.

why the hell do so many men have problems with men getting manicures? I get them sometimes and uhh it's no big deal. And a nail shop is a great place to meet females, plus most will already be impressed with you before they know anything. Just because you're a man and you're secure enough to get a manicure.

Guess I wouldn't make it as a Boston Trooper 😀

Uhhh.... it has nothing to do with being "secure" enough to get a manicure. You make it seem like all men secretly want manicures but are afraid of getting one because they aren't "secure" enough. If you want to get one, get one, but 99% of men simply don't feel the need to get one. Enjoy your bikini wax while you're at it 😉

whats the big deal? if he was on duty, sure. but, if not, wtf is the big deal?

Normally I wouldn't care either. But he was in uniform and the article said he was on duty. I know some companies like UPS and especially the police force tell you to do absolutely nothing else but your duties if you're wearing the uniform because you're representing them.

I read it that he could've been on duty or he could've been off duty but still in uniform. If he was off duty I would hope they rescind the reprimand.

Sounds like he was on duty from the article. The woman who submitted the picture did not know if he was on-duty or off-duty.

If he was on-duty then the problem is self explanatory.
If he was off-duty then the problem stems from him being in uniform. While wearing the uniform he is a representative of the Police Department and should, at all times, conduct himself as if he was on-duty.

It does have the operative OR in there not AND. I took it as meaning if he was off-duty but in uniform it's still a no-no. I wonder if they also frown on people picking up their dry-cleaning on the way to/from work, or dropping by to rent a video. I don't see these things as any different!

It is not like he was getting a brazilian or sitting at the bar doing shots. The only thing I see wrong with it is that the public might get the impression that troopers are wasting their time while on duty (even if the person was on lunch break or something). Reprimand yes... fire no.

Exactly. If he was off duty then a slap on the wrist and a reminder that while in the uniform he is a representative of the department. If he was on-duty then definitely something more severe than a slap on the wrist for abandoning his post.

Where in the article does it specifically say he was on duty?

I thought organizations wanted their uniformed people to look good..
