These local newspapers really need to start identifying their location by country, state, and city.

My concern is the location of this crime; England, Europe, America?
WTF is Aiken? Are they affiliated with Troy Aiken?

Then they say North Augusta, what universe is this in?
Then we see Aiken County, obviously in North Augusta. Sure, that tells me exactly where it is.

Then we see Eastover, followed by Georgia Health Sciences University.
They then reference Columbia and a "a nearby Waffle House on Martintown Road". I can picture it all in my head.

Then they reference "S.C. State Law Enforcement Division".

Edit:
It seems that I mixed Troy Aikman with Clay Aiken. o_O  :p
I am a fan of neither.

Umm, you do know what "local" news is right? It's a local paper so all the readers live there.

Seriously? Our discussion makes it clear that all the readers do not live there. Also, the internet provides the whole world access to their website. Yet they presume prior familiarity with their location.

True but appears to be the norm. A lot of threads link papers and I have to try and figure out where it is.

N Augusta, SC, fwiw. Next door to Augusta and the Masters golf tournament.

He may not have killed the other two, but he did hit them - seeing that they could only drive a little distance before seeking 'emergency help'. I think he just sprayed the room and let the odds fall in his favor.

I love trying to imagine their state of mind when they bolted the store with their ass on fire ...

I think the emergency help was just some waffles. It's chicken soup for the gunshot wound.

The store owner should be charged for failure to properly kick ass with an assault rifle. No reason at all the other two shouldn't have died between 21 bullets.

This is why I strongly support gun control. Then again sometime CS style spray and pray works too.

What kind of stupid asshat robs a gun store anyway? They've always been known to be packing loaded weapons behind the counter. Also, aren't gun store owners legally obligated to protect their merchandise with deadly stopping force if necessary?

Not that I know of. This would fall under SC castle doctrine where one can shoot at will at anybody unlawfully on premise.

What criminals didn't think of is the guy lives there with his wife, open fire without hesitation.

Not to self, get some magazine couplers. One 30 isn't enough.

I dont know if an AR-15 makes a good close-range home defense weapon. Also, he spent the whole magazine and
that worked out like 10 bullets per robber. A waste of bullets on those low-life scums there.

unfortunately, you can't protect your gunshop like that here in Canada.

Back in 1994, Roger Pardy was shot to death by thieves in his gun store in Oshawa, Ontario. The guns the gang stole were used to terrorize most of Sothwestern Ontario. Including a string of robberies and assaults here in London. It took 40 officers to take down all 3 suspects.

Agreed. But those two are now guilty of felony murder. Does south carolina have death penalty for felony murder?

But obviously the rifle did the job. Rifle>shotgun>handgun

But AR's are evil semi-automatic assault rifles only used for mass murder. And 30 round magazines!?!?! The horror, they are just devices of death and have no place in the hands of citizens.

Oh, wait. This dude used them legally to defend his property. This is why large capacity magazines need to be available. Multiple assailant robberies/home invasions are very common these days.

FTFY. Wanted to keep that straight like the article writer...

Semi auto means not an assault rifle. How that shit keeps being reported and not corrected is beyond me.

Upon their release, each man faces first degree burglary charges, grand larceny and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Prosecutors say in other states the surviving men could face a felony murder charge for the death of the co-conspirator, but Solicitor J. Strom Thurmond said that, in South Carolina, there is no mechanism to charge the men for Goodwin's death.

The prosecutor is the son of the late great Senator Thurmond........"Want some candy, young lady?":)

Spidey, you well know no castle doctrine says that. Good try at a paraphrase, but written the way you represent, one can shoot anyone who just steps on your lawn without your permission. Sheesh.

They broke the threshold. And unlawful at that.

Open fire at will.

Stories like this make me all warm and fuzzy inside. First the Texas gentleman and his awesome .357 skills (be it 150 yds or 150 ft), and next this guy who within his rights was protecting his property and preventing weapons from falling into the hands of men who would continue to do dubious things.
