Isn't Australia smaller (in population) than both Germany and the UK? Seems like they have an issue too (although tiny compared to ours). This graph would be more accurate if it took into account the population of the country.

I knew it was all over for CNN as a serious network about 5 years back when they would have actual headlines talking about what Kanye West tweeted. Yeah, I was kind of late to the party.

I don't get this point of view that CNN is responsible for the actions of individuals. This point of view seems to be predicated on seeing most people as mindless retards who are at the mercy of news networks when it comes to perpetratin some violence.

No, CNN wasn't suggesting that the public should riot. They were just jizzing their pants at the fact that rioting was happening.

CNN will NOT be held accountable for the reving up that lead to rioting. But, it's foolish to think that the media is incapable of driving people to do bad things. Goebbels and others in Nazi Germany spun fantastic tales and repeated them often enough that an entire first world nation were able to do great evil. As I mentioned before, repetition is critical to this and CNN repeated there lies everyday.

No, I doubt CNN wanted the public to riot after the ruling came down, but they acted with depraved indifference to the effect there broadcasts have had. Again, repetition of a lie is critical, and in the case of the pre-verdict coverage, the fact that they showed scenes of precious rioting WITHOUT a disclaimer that is wasn't live was dangerous. Look, it's likely there would have been rioting anyway even if CNN had not had that stupidly done coverage hours before the verdict. And, it's also likely that there would have been rioting even if the step farther hadn't shouted "Burn it down" repeatedly.

We can all point fingers at the actions and consequences of them from the likes of Rush Limbaugh et all and surely they have much to answer for over the last 25 years or so, but the events of the last few months make it clear the left's hands aren't clean either...

Honestly I think it's the US that has a messed up idea of what's left wing rather than the UK.
Extreme right-wing socially conservative nationalists desperately trying to convince the public that they're moderates by accusing everything to their left of being communist.

Reddit is the best (and by that I mean fastest, you will hear about stuff before any news network picks it up) place to get news as long as you avoid the comment cancer.
...

I must be doing something wrong with Reddit. I tried looking for a few days and just can't see the value.

Like right now, the top 5 stories include :

"Everyday, someone on Earth unknowingly does the biggest poo in the world for that day."

"Found a penis within a tree"

"The bubbles on the side of my pint glass look like the word 'chill'..."

The issue that I have always had with partisanship is how easily it can be used to excuse wrongdoing.
Your post is a perfect example. It's not an excuse that there are dirty hands on both sides, it's twice the problem.

CNN is more or less tabloid clickbait at this point. MSNBC and Fox are just parities on the opposite sides of the spectrum. None of the three should be watched for any meaningful news. All three use sensationalist fear mongering as their main method of attention. Actually, you'd be better off not watching them period.

As for this forum, there is a good amount of representation of all ideas. Nothing too outlandish. Of course, there are a few posters that make you scratch your head, but usually the discussions are civil. Until you have a commonly accepted definition of what 'liberal' and 'conservative' is, then it is pretty useless to try and define people by those terms. If atheism defines liberal then yeah, Anandtech is fairly liberal.

As for me, although I'd consider myself fiscally conservative I just can't side with the group that has overtly racist and bigoted people which openly reject the scientific method and dreams of instilling a Christian theocracy among their ranks. I don't have a political party in this country.

Catching a big news story is more a matter of luck on Reddit. But IMO Reddit it shit since the end of last spring. For some reason, there was an influx of retarded tweeners that made every single comment thread absolute cancer and even leaked into the posts. Take a look at the retarded "sex" subreddit. Every single story (almost) is either "Am I pregnant?" or "Can people stop posting 'Am I pregnant' posts? They are awful!"

The only way to catch a story on reddit today is sitting around, refreshing the "New" section and getting lucky.

There are a few saving graces to reddit. There are some subreddits that are basically unknown to the retarded posters because they aren't capable of navigating there, or something. They are pretty cool.

One well known one (well, more or less) is /r/syriancivilwar . If you want to see shit happen on an hourly basis, in a warzone, that is the place to go. Some days are boring, and some days ISIS takes Mosul.

Msnbc is not a news network, it's a political network. It is in no way comparable to CNN and it does have a few shows that are essentially fox equivalents for the left (the Ed show).

Ok I gotta ask, what the heck do you mean by "fiscally conservative"? Does this mean that you want to end social security, medicaid and medicare? If you don't want the government to spend money, what EXACTLY do you want it to stop spending money on.
