VERY TRUE. Esp since a lot of cards charge fees if you don;t use it all in a certain time period and/or they just expire with no value.

I gave my wife $300 in cash. Shes happy, I'm happy, Case closd. GC sucks cash wins.

Why do you want to buy a gift card from Trader Joe's? Do they give you more $$ like if you buy $50 card, you get $60 worth of credit? If it's the same amount, why trade one item that has universal use (US money) for something of restricted value that can only be used at one company (gift card).

I can see the value if say a restaurant offered $100 gift card for $75. Getting 33% more in value by giving up worldwide flexibility of the dollar could be a good trade. But 1:1 cash to gift card trade is retarded.

I'm just looking for something to stick in the card along with the main gift... cash is tacky and at least a gift card says "hey, I pay attention when we talk and I know where you like to shop."

I never met a person who didn't like cash or turned it down. Cash > credit.

I dunno... it's always just seemed kinda tacky to me. to be honest, I don't even really like giving gift cards :p

I only ever give cash as a gift if it's for a kid (under 16) or a wedding (I always try and give cash over checks at weddings so that the bride and groom have a nice chunk of immediately available cash to take with them on their honeymoon).

If anyone gives me cash I'll be f'in thrilled. It's like, why should I have to go to all the work of going to a store or mall with zillions of other people to buy my OWN gift. At least buy me a gift and give me the receipt so I can get cash. I hate gift cards. :|

Not sure why they're 'hot' right now, other than companies make huge $$ off people not using them (probably because they're like me and hate going shopping).
