If this is true, this means that in September the gap between AMD and Nvidia will be the largest ever?

With the GTX 1080 already occupying the price slot meant for the Titan P, get ready for a quad-digit price tag.
It's called the Titan P, because that's what you do in your pants when you see the price.

The target is at least 50% higher performance than GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition, and our sources are saying they’re now bound by the CPU. Even Core i7-6950X isn’t enough to feed all the cards and in a lot of scenarios you could see an Intel Core i7-6700K, with its supreme clock (4.0 vs. 3.0 GHz) easily feed the GP100 more efficiently than Broadwell-E based Core i7 Extreme Edition. The running joke inside Nvidia is “don’t buy the 6950X – buy 6700K and a Titan” but we’re not sure that Nvidia will use this for an official tagline. Truth to be told, they might be right – we need Intel to return to the 4-core next-gen mainstream/enthusiast and then X-core big-daddy part using the same architecture, rather than the current cadence which makes sense only if you’re working for Intel. AMD’s 8-core ZEN cannot come soon enough.

If all things go well, Nvidia should unveil GeForce GTX Titan P on Gamescom in Cologne, Germany – August 17-21, 2016.

Interesting. :)

GP102 in-between Titan P & 1080? Not much room there to slot in. If GP102 exists, with low FP64, it will be outright faster than Titan P.

if GP100 is only 50% faster in max SKU then i guess GP102 will be a ~12 month time card that is big. At that point the other chips get a rebrand/ tweak based on current process state and they stop selling GP100 to consumers.

Thats my guess anyway.

I think the titan will be gp102.

gp100 has the half and double precision features, but that's not going to help much in games.

There's a 0% chance that Titan P is GP100 if it's coming out this fast, as GP100 won't be anywhere close to market saturation for the HPC (Tesla) and Workstation (Quadro) markets by that time.

It would be completely illogical for them to do that.

It's either GP102 or it's not actually coming out that soon.

That's what makes more sense. If GP102 exists, it should be launched for consumers while HBM2 GP100 goes to expensive Teslas & then Quadros.

but it also has ~50% more shaders. I guess they could make a 430-450mm GP102 with around the same amount of shaders. The other thing agsint GP100 selling as a GPU is it has a lot of wasted die space with all the PCI-E interfaces.

I don't buy the GP100 Titan P. It's very compute focused, spending a lot more transistors on FP64, double the register file, improved scheduling, NVLink, and so on.

I would expect Titan P to be GP102, with 384-bit GDDR5X, and scaled up GP104 architecture. (Like how Titan X was based on GM200, not GK210.)

Yes, I assume gp102 will be a 1080 +50%, like they did with maxwell.

Doubt it will actually launch.

I'm expecting to see Jen-Hsun Huang up there with a HBM2 filled board asking the crowd "did we not promise you the power of ten?" and proceeding to drop a $10,000 price tag, The Price is Right style. Confetti everywhere. No way the card launches Q3, maybe Q4.

Could be using a cut GP100... I'm sure not all chips can make the grade for Quadro/Tesla, might as well use them in the new Titan. Launch it for whatever they want without competition while they stockpile GP102, and release GP102 when they feel the Titan has worn out it's stay. Even a cut GP100 will be plenty faster than a GP104. The new Titan could even stay relevant in the market if it has the compute advantage over GP102.

If it is 1080+50% and it does launch at the traditional $999 price, I'm pretty sure I'll pick one up. It's shocking to say, but it would actually be a reasonable deal compared to a $700 FE 1080.

If Titan P is based on GP100, I would be stunned.

This has been gone over more that a few times, but so would I. The only way it would make sense to launch a GP100 based Titan before the PCIe based Tesla cards is if they have a large number of dies that can't even make P100 spec, and its a further cut part. 12GB, 3328CC (or 3200), and 1/4 or 1/3 DP performance.

Still, I can't see them launching that before the Tesla cards.

The comments about 6950X bottlenecking a Titan P are hilarious and I cannot wait to see the results. I got flamed in all those Broadwell-E threads when I continued to recommend i7 6700K over all Broadwell-E chips as the best gaming CPU after finding out that BW-E is a dog overclocker. By the time Titan P launches, it shouldn't be too long before i7 7700K launches. If you guys look at 1080 SLI review at TPU and compare 1080/1440/4K results, it's 100% clear that even a 6700K OC is already a bottleneck for 1080 SLI at 1440p as the scaling is nowhere near as good as at 4K.

Very impressive for NV to roll out the big daddy Pascal this soon. When they announced a 16nm 610mm2 GP100, I already knew AMD has no chance this generation. I am not sure if to expect a GP100 with HBM2 or a 3840 CC ~450mm2 GP102 384-bit GDDR5X. Could NV keep the Titan P based on GP100 but release 1080Ti as GP102? For Volta, for 1080Ti successor I think they will shift to a 600+mm2 design with HBM2.

This is shaping up to be one of the worst generations for PC gamers in terms of competition though. NV is now able to price their cards as high as the consumer can bear since AMD has nothing. As such, I think Titan P will finally see a price increase from the $999 level. Personally, I don't care about the Titan P after seeing the incredible level of devaluation in the OG Titan ($999 -> 9 months later $399 290, 18 months later $329 970), and the Titan X ($999 -> 15 months later $399 1070). It's evident that the customer base purchasing Titan P is price inelastic. For that reason it makes no logical reason for NV not to raise the price to $1199-1299.
