The new Asus MARS II GTX-590 is going to be an absolute monster.

Cliffs:
The shroud suspends two 80 mm high-sweep fans that blow air on to two heatsinks with highly dense aluminum fin arrays to which heat is fed by copper heat pipes. The card draws power from three 8-pin PCI-Express power connectors. The card uses two NVIDIA GF110 GPUs with the same core configuration and clock profile as GeForce GTX 580, effectively making MARS II a dual-GTX 580, which also provides the overclocking headroom of a GTX 580, something impossible on a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590.

Rumor has it that it will be priced around $1200!!
 
PCB is larger than the back panel, more VRM phases maybe ???

From the pics it seams that also the Cooler has the same size of the PCB meaning it is bigger too.

Nice card if you can afford it 😉
 
Unless this has 3GB per GPU, @ standard GTX580 clocks, they won't get a penny... you can get a Zotac 3GB GTX580 for $540, with more wind between slots.
 
So, 3x 8pin = (3x 150W)+75W for the pcie slot. That's 525W (theoretically) for a single card. As someone else on these boards is fond of saying, "Bring on 28nm".
 
NOW THAT is ONE beautiful looking card, and I bet with ASUS doing the component requirements, its also going to be one hell of a performer!

This has me excited!

If Nvidia and AMD engineers had half a brain when they were making their dual cards, they would have released triple slot cooled cards (along side the dual slot ones) for quieter operations and better overclocking along side their dual slot fiasco's. Instead, we get underpowered gtx590's and chainsaw-loud hd6990's.

That said, those fan blades look pretty large and will probably move a a crap load of air.

$1,200 for a video card who in their right mind would buy this?

Would it make more sense to buy dual gtx580 cards no?

If the price was $1,050 or so i would be all over it.

Leave it to Asus to make high performance parts and this one defines the king of performance.

I didn't see any mention of ASUS doing a 6990, the king of performance, Willis.

These cards cost a lot, but then again they are limited production items, high price for low availability is a given.

For the kind of person who'll buy 1 or 2 of these cards, price is not a factor.

I would love to own one of these cards over 2 x GTX580 ONLY because it is a special card and (hopefully) a model of good technical design.

I just did a quick check of the main e-tailers, and it looks like there are about as many 6990s for sale as there are super-590s.

And I am guessing it has to do with the supply side.

I was so apprehensive when I heard all about the 6990's supposed earth shattering sound - so far ive had none of that kind of sound off the system so far, card included. maybe i got lucky, but it seems very exaggerated
 
A niche product either way but it's odd how the world is turning more eco friendly (especially visible in cars - engine sizes, downsizing with turbos, hybrid etc.) while graphics cards seem to be getting larger and more power hungry.

It would be a lot more fun if they simply designed a PCB that lets you change the GPU onboard via a plug-in socket and also the RAM too. The only problem is then the AIB outlets that are often nothing more than a pretty name and little behind it would go out of business.
