OK, I've gotta step in here. And I think that just about anyone here will back me up...

VW's may have sh!tty customer service and spotty reliability, but VW interiors (including the Jetta) and ANY Acura interior will trounce the Lego interiors/dashes in the Avalanche/Silverado/Sierra/Yukon/Tahoe.

The Avalanche doesn't even come close to matching even an Acura TL's interior:

well ok, the comparison wasnt that great, but its not the looks, it was more the feel of the stuff, the seats in the jetta werent as comfy, although i have become biased to trucks/suv's seats as you feel higher, and etc. my mom owns a rav 4. seriously, that car is a POS. and well, i gotta say prolly the only reason we do buy GM is cuz my dad buys trucks, and he has a GMS discount from my grandfather (around 15% off!!!)

nourdmrolNMT1, NFS4 is right man. I told you before I own a relatively new GM. Interior makes NO SENSE whatsoever. Everything is just placed and left there. There is no attempt to make the "empty" areas look good and its just not ergonomic. I want a car to look just as stylish outside and is it is inside. GM just doesn't do it in that respect. But for dependability, power, towing, hauling its second to none. And that's why I chose it, and GM designed it because no person making over $150K a year is really looking into a chevy.

What I have is practical experience. 16 years service manager at a fleet/wholesale distributor which deals in EVERY make, model, year. We currently have over 17,000 vehicles in our inventory and over the years I've seen not only problems, I've seen TRENDS.

The Big Three have serious design and quality control problems - with Diamler Chrysler being by far the worst. I mean, parts just fall off those cars - GM and Ford also. My techs and I shake our heads on a daily basis and just can't believe they ask for money for these things.

Do yourself a favor and go over to AllData and check out the list of TSBs and recalls on your choice of American built car vs. an import from Japan.

Take it from me. It's like humans vs. aliens, freekin Roswell. The Japanese are on such a higher design and engineering level our guys can't even begin to figure them out.

The new '04 Ford F-150's interior is equal to or greater than the Tundra IMHO. I sat in one of the new '04 F-150's at the Dixie Classic fair and it was UBER nice. The quality of materials wasn't quite Toyota level, but I like the design a lot and everything was right where it should be. Now comparing an '03 F-150 interior to a Tundra is no contest. The Tundra TROUNCES that piece of sh!t 😛

I'm sure the American guys are as good as japs..slightly less however, but the question is: why would they want to? Not until recently has Gm felt the need to upgrade their GMC/Chevy SUV line up with a 275Hp i6 engine. I mean GM just came out of no-where with that. You should also know by now, American Manufacturer's don't take the initiative, the competition brings out a new product, if their bread and butter is going to be undermined, Detroit fires back with their own. Ford/GM just take a longer time to initiate it; since it costs R&D resources and taking revenue from old/established products.

wow, that 04 pic of the f-150 makes it seem like it has so much room, lol, but then you gotta look how far back the seat is, the ppl in the back would have to be under 3 ft!!

but the 04's LOOK is horrible, i dont like how it looks all blocky, rounded can be nice sometimes too. not just blocky and muscular like they want it to look like. and wow, everyone is going to the use of those air outlets in the vehicles (round).

Ya but I'll buy it because it keeps most dollars here, supports union workers many limited skill many minorities who now live middle class instead of walmart job. I've known for years Japanese build the best refined autos with most power per ltr and best economy fuel wise but one area they lack is plush comfort like cadillac and lincoln or abuse you can give an american drivetrain in trucks. Look at the axel housings sometimes on SUV'sand trucks it's 2x the diameter on american rides..

chrysler has had tranny problems FOR EVER. ford is now having problems with their new diesel truck, not sure what, but they are having some engine problems.

It's all about profit margins. They're not as good as the Japanese because they don't want to spend the money that's necessary to be. They just design what's adequete and bang em out. Toyota is smarter because they made less on each car - built them better and sold a ton of them. In the long run they ended up making more. Somebody said they have like 80 billion in cash lying around or something crazy like that.

About the I6 engine. Did you know that in order to fit the I6 under a sloping hood it was necessary to integrate the front differential into the engine oil pan? They haven't been out for that long so I can't speak for the reliability, but I'm scared. I can see some enormous repair bills.

Thing is though - most of the imports are built here in the US anyway. So you're still employing Americans if you buy a Nissan.

um, why? what do u mean by integrate?? as in, mold the oil pan around the diff, or is the diff PART of the oil pan?

Actually that isn't entirely accurate - what happens is the axle goes THROUGH the oil pan.
