S2000 > MX-5 > Spyder

Of course, those aren't in the same price range; but if I was to be given one that'd be my choices

MR-2 Spyder + Celica GTS engine in it = woo woo :)

But I gotta say that the S2K takes the cake.

All interesting choices, but if I wanted a compact convertible i'd go for the <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US<img src=---i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif--- border=---0--->fficial&hs=I08&q=350z%20roadster%20convertible...&btnG=Search&ie

S2000 no question

I've driven each one and wouldn't have to think about this for even an instant.

Spyder - very little room and next to no power at all, my Accord accelerates faster than this thing. If it had 100-150HP more, it would be fun. I don't like how the roof works either, I don't remember details, but I didn't have a good opinion of the interior when I was done driving.

Mazda - same issue, no power at all. Yeah, it can handle, but it still needs a bit more power to get anywhere stock.

S2000 - not exactly a beast, but 240HP is pretty nice. It has a bit more room than the MR2 Spyder as well. The engine sounds amazing and goes to either 8,000 RPM or 9,000 RPM depending on the model year.

S2000 > Miata > Spyder

S2K FTMFW.

I read about an article where they put an Acura/Honda engine (K22?) into the Spyder and that became damn fast. The guy commented how he did many engine swaps including the Celica GTS into an MR2, but the Honda engine took the cake. Of course that would cost another $5-9k or something.

Correct order.
The miata does have the advantage of being the mustang of 2 seater convertibles so it has a huge aftermarket with decent prices. Its lack of power can be taken care of with any of the many forced induction kits out there from $800 and up. Plus you can buy them for nothing. I think the spyders just look plain horrible.

my friend has one with weight reduction. ~230hp to the wheels and weighs 2300-2400lbs. very fast...

350z isn't exactly compact. They dwarf my miata and weigh 1300lbs more or 3600lbs. Porkers :).

The S2000 is easily the best of the three, but it also costs much more than the other two.

Most people know that Miatas are also something special, but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the Toyota MR-Spyder. It handles like it's on rails and feels much more connected to the driver than nearly any other car I've driven. It's one of the few cars out there where I feel that the chassis could take much, much more power than the engine is giving.

I really wanted an MR-2 Spyder, however the only real way to get more power is an engine swap, and even then it's a pathetic torque output. That was a turn off for me :(

Seconded. Or, if all you are going for is the 2 seater sport convertible look, have you checked out the Saturn convertible or the Pontiac Solstice? Clearly not as nice from a build quality perspective, but they look pretty sweet and ar ~10+k less than the cars you mentioned.

S2000 is an amazing car, but at 2200lbs, the miata is nearly half a ton lighter. This means go-kart like handling.
S2000 is nice, but a miata with a supercharger would be hard to beat.

:D

Yeah, I am not a fan of the S2000 engine. It just doesn't appeal to me.

far too redline happy.. heh. gimme the mx5. let me throw on a supercharger. and we're good to go :)

but the s2000 is far sexier in styling I think.

2007 Miata 2400lb
2007 S2000 2800lb

less than 1/4th of a ton
