I can tell a huge difference in my wife's Lexus and my Sequoia and Tundra. Lexus was built in Japan, Sequoia and Tundra were built here. Not that I'm saying the S and T are bad vehicles, but the build quality difference between them and the Lexus is easy to see.

Previously I had an 05 4Runner. Great vehicle built in Japan. Only had one problem with it, the sunroof kept jamming and wouldn't close at times. Took it in and the service manager told me they had several come in with that problem and it turned out the sunroof was the lone component on the 4Runner made in U.S and that the replacements were now coming from Japan. Never had an issue with it after it was replaced. Hmmmmmmmm.......

I can't wait to read next years consumer report still slurping off Toyota, "If your truck hasn't rusted away, and you haven't accelerated into a group of kids crossing the road yet your Toyota is still the most reliable car on the road, 10 out of 10"

Any european car "You haven't accidentally killed anyone with your runaway car, but there's some minor problems with the navigation, 5 out of 10"
 
My wife just made the first payment on her camry and she's not to happy about this,at least the dealer is going to give her another car to drive until this is straightened out.

16 people have died and over 200 injuries have been reported.

You can say "it's only 8" all till you are blue in the face, but it's KILLED 16 people. Cars aren't supposed to kill people due to design flaws that are swept under the rug and kept hush for years. They've been required to stop selling those models total. Does that not tell you this isn't a big deal?

Plus, I wouldn't trust the numbers if they've come from Toyota.

Yes. Engineers design the products. They take it personal when there is a problem the first time. Furthermore, they rarely sit on their ass even when they are on top. They are always trying to advance the product. At least this is my experience with the engineers I know.

Taking it personal does not mean they won't make mistakes from time to time. And they are a business...stop being so trusting. Do you think the engineers at Toyota are laughing at this? Honda isn't sum magical company who does only good.

Of course engineers make mistakes. But they are always making things better. An engineer at the helm would understand this. The Toyota engineers were probably undermined by their bosses who only understand management and lawyer-speak and sought to grow at all cost. Honda may not be a magical company but the are pretty close afaic wrt engineering cars.

It came from the company that made the throttle assembly, so maybe they're even LESS trustworthy. 😱

Either way, I'm certainly not going to stop driving my Tundra until they design a fix for it. If anything happens I can just throw it in park or shut it off.

I've only had one toy a 1993 4runner. Broke more shit on it than any car. Broke 3 a arms, burned xmisson out towing my 69 scout out of a bog and back home (6 miles), and finanlly motor poped out at pismo beach jumping dunes. I had it 20,000 miles. No problems with F-350. I'd actually like of have a problem with it it's 10 years old with 210K miles and my wife says no new one because yours is fine.

It is a business, and should be respected as such. IMHO, you have way too much faith in Honda. But if that is your deal, all power to you.

And with regard to engineering...it is a product of business. For any business, engineering is always about making the compromise so that a product is sellable ... whether the company is run by an engineer or not. If you make the wrong decision, you could either price yourself out of the market or make a shitty item that no one makes. If you make the right decision, you make money. Now Honda has made a lot of good decisions...and they've made their share of shitty ones too. Once again, IMHO, you have too much faith in Honda.

Yeah, engineers make stuff, but they do not call the shots. Honda is no different.

If everything was left to do it the "engineer's way", everything would be over budget and priced out of contention.

Ummm, you missed my point entirely. It's the mentality and understanding that would be beneficial since the engineers would have the CEO's ear. In the corporate world, that matters alot.

And you missed my point...once you get that far up, you no longer think like an engineer, even if you were one for most of your life. And if your company is big like Honda, yeah, you probably do not even talk to the engineers.
