Town votes down tax increase, no police coverage at night and weekends leads to rape

I can't believe rural counties don't at least have deputies on call 24/7 for these types of situations.
 
That is insane for a police dept to do this in any senario.

I have tried to buy a gun since the 80's but get denied and ask why and told to write someplace and never get a reason why, I am not a felon or been locked up in a mental ward but still denied with no reason so I keep this 42" 1066 carbon katana next to my bed.

As others pointed out, that's a rather shortsighted view of this. Where else is the money in the budget being spent? Did the municipality decide to put money towards buying some council member a yacht that would otherwise have paid for the sheriffs? And then expect people to just pay out more money for the sheriffs? Seems like a great way to do things "sorry guys, we wasted ALL your money, and now we need money for the cops/firefighters/fix a road fund. You have to give it to us, else you might get raped at 4AM!"

yeah this was brought up earlier, and its spot on. this is america, there is NO reason not to have police on call no matter what town youre in. im sure the budget will get looked at, and im sure they will find millions of reasons this shouldnt have happened.

before the idiots tell me the police cant do everything, i know. no shit. the fact is they could have done something in this case, and its a basic safety net that had no excuse to be absent.

It's not just police and fire, it's everything. Everyone wants every damn thing yet nobody wants to pay for it. Taxes are at a 60 year low and many areas (states) are cutting taxes more and more. Throw in a recession and lower revenues and this is what's going to happen more and more.

You want the shit, pay for it. You want more cuts in spending and taxes, expect less service.
 
You have to buy guns, uniforms, Automobiles, Train Personnel, Target Practice, insurance, etc.

What do you expect cops to do? Cops show up after the crime. By then you are dead.

youre missing the point completely. that has nothing to do with why the police werent there. they werent there because people arent smart enough to know you cant have things if youre dead.

and your federal taxes have went down more than your state taxes have went up (assuming you're in the 50% or so that pays federal income tax). Not enough money to fix the roads and nobody wants to pay the taxes to fix them? Place a toll booth on them and now you get to pay for the toll attendant as well as fixing the road. Problem solved.

My taxes went down? Wow, that's strange. I paid roughly the same percentage I did the year before on my return (~27% effective tax rate) and this year my taxes go up even more per paycheck.

whatever then. im sure we agree somewhere in the middle. i am all for gun ownership but i think it needs to be much more regulated then it is. were turning into the Philippines, and its scary.
