It says this kid had no history of serious crime or violence, he did not deserve to be sent to prison IMO.

What kind of retard parents send their kids to prison for that? That's a little extreme on tough love (no pun intended)

That's why it's called "tough love." Think about those two words and then you'll see why they did what they did.

Ashley's family have issued a statement listing 10 questions they want answered, such as why was a 17-year-old with no history of serious crime or violence was transported unattended with more serious offenders?

Wow, gee, let's see... here's the answer!

Ashley's family say his parents wanted to teach him a lesson about the consequences of breaking the law.

He took the car, they wanted him treated like a criminal, and now they want to know why he didn't get special treatmeant? 😕 Retards.

u gotta add stupid prison system. i dunno why inmates are allowed to contact each other. they should have individual cells, tiny individual cells and as little human contact as possible.

And then you'll have ex-prison inmates that will have absolutely no chance of assimilating back into the world.

Solitary confinement does wonders to fvcking with a person's psyche.

Corrections is not a place to have your children sent to, even a 17 y.o (and in this case with no priors). If people actually had any idea of what went on in those places, they would've never sent him there in the first place.

That goes well above "tough love."

its better than what we currently have, thriving prison gangs. npr had a nice radio documentary on californias prisons recently😛 give them access to counsolers, books etc, but not much to each other. no pressure to join gangs, no risk of being killed. current system certainly isn't setup to encourage assimilation back into the world.

Parents have son arrested for borrowing car

Isn't "borrowing" preceded by "asking"? Taking something without permission isn't borrowing, and making their son take responsibility for his actions is good parenting. I'm quite sure he could have bailed his own ass out of jail...if he had the funds.

No way they could anticipate the tragedy that happened, and like them wanting their son to take responsibilities for his actions, they have every right to expect that the criminal justice system should take responsibility for theirs....Those prisoners should be safe being transported.

This is so disturbing it almost makes you want to laugh. Those parents are morons. Tough Love would have been served at letting the kid get arrested, making him get booked, fingerprinted, etc without pressing further charges.

Even though the outcome in this case was extreme, even if he hadn't been killed he probably would have been made somebody's bitch. They shouldn't have expected the prison system to perform their parental duties for them. It's no secret that horrible things can happen to someone in that environment.

The one thing I love about the law is how in its eyes we are all the same.

Having said that, where do you propose we send felons, regardless of their affiliation to the victims?

What a bunch of moronic parents I think you guys are also overlooking a very imporant thing here.

The kid has a criminal record now.. that'll show up in future background checks for jobs.

His parents have ruined alot of potential job opportunities because the kid 'took' their car.

wow i feel bad for the parents...they were doign what they thought was best and it just backfired horribley

You'd have to be clinically retarded to think that was what was best. So in other words they were about as bright as the average parent these days.

Uhh...I don't think it's a bad idea. If you have a little sh!t that's doing stuff like that, and you can have the prison system smack some sence into him, go for it. I was VERY, VERY close to the same fate in a VERY similiar situation...the judge was lenient though. And BOY did it smarten me up

I feel really bad for those parents.

I think you're missing one important fact: the kid is dead. Somehow I think future job considerations are no longer important.

Umm ... I'm pretty sure his criminal record doesn't matter .... he's dead.

(in addition, he wasn't convicted, he had only been charged before he was killed)
