I have the IDE version of Pioneer's DVD-ROM and I'm happy with it but it's a bit loud when it's spinning. I would go with the Toshiba if it's cheaper but you should do your research on your own.

In regards to the region unlocking hack, is that proper for this forum? I once stated something that may have been unethical on these forums and I got e-mailed by a moderator.

GMaximus - The Hollywood+ makes everything very blurry above 1024x768. I got rid of it when I got my 19" monitor 🙂

Jebus- Check to see if you have a Tracking Number next to where it says In Process. If you do have a number then you know the package is already on its way.

Lovely.

When searching for the SD-M1402 on Shopper.com, you get
12X DVD-ROM 32X CDROM SINGLE RETURNS REF. Under this description are 30 merchants, including Onvia. Why was it showing as 32X instead of 40X, and what does RETURNS REF mean? Are these returned or refurbished drives?

Jebus - Mine says "In Process" but has shipped. Got the tracking number next to it, like Namuna stated. It was shipped out on the 21st, but didnt get updated on da net til early Sept 23rd. Ill be expecting it Tues or Wed.

yellowperil - I think thats a different drive altogether, though it may be the same model. Just follow the linky that Namuna posted for us.

Looks like the best price out there for a pretty good drive from what I have seen from the links that were provided with review (Thanks 🙂.

I ordered mine yesterday.
I was just wondering if anyone out there actually has this drive and could give their thoughts on the drive and perhaps tell what the drive comes with/in [packaging (retail/oem?)]...

I almost went for the CompuGeeks $59.99 5x DVD, with tax and discount (MC %10) that would have come out to $62. For $17 dollars more double the speed, and better quality.

Thanks again for the informative posts.
Any feedback on the drive would be great.

FYI for those unsure...😕

Under product questions for this DVD-Rom drive:

Q: "Is this DVD-ROM drive brand new or a return/refurb? Also, is it the OEM version? Does anything come with it? "

A: "This is a new OEM DVD-ROM drive. Only a small instruction sheet will be included with the drive. "

looks like we dont even get screws. oh well,... got plenty.
