Toshiba 1GHz notebook -- $700 after rebates at OD (DEAL DEAD)

This notebook is on sale everywhere. This might be the best deal that doesn't involve price matching. Go to Office Depot and you will see the Toshiba Notebook $200 rebate icon on the left. Click on this and it will bring you to the page showing Toshiba notebook for $899, search for sku 238722. Free shipping but tax for many people.

One $100 rebate from Toshiba and one $100 rebate from Office Depot. The OD rebate needs to be postmarked by the end of next week (3-16) and received by them on March 23, so you won't have lots of time, but there should be enough time. Delivery time will probably be three days, like me. This should leave plenty of time for the rebate.

Celeron 1.06 GHz, but with 256K cache and 133 MHz bus speed, just like the P3. 15 GB hard drive. 14.1 display. V90 modem. DVD drive. The main thing it lacks which I would like is 10/100 NIC. I'll probably use my Linksys USB NIC for now.

Sorry if this is a repost, but I searched for Toshiba and Notebook and did not find this particular deal.

PS -- I did go through Ebates so my price should be about $9 less, which equals 1% off. I guess there are also possible coupons available. Credit bens bargains.

there should also be a $20 off $75 or equivalent coupon out there making this a pretty good deal IMO

I think you mean 1GHz not 1GB as posted in title.

Plus Save $20 by using the Coupon. Not much but better than nothing! :)

if you read the fine print it says "may not be combined with any other Toshiba rebate during this promotional period" so might as well go for the $100 version

Edit: wait, I still see it in stock

Edit again: oh yeah, that's right, probably out of stock in your part of the world

You can't use both of the Toshiba rebates, unless you have two orignal boxes. Only one or the other. I recommend using the $100 one instead of the $50. :D

It is curious that they list an rj45 under "ports" but it doesn't claim to come with an NIC. I'd be willing to bet that is wrong.

I can't get the $20 coupon to work. I have found a code for $15 dollar coupon but there is no place to put a code. The $20 one is a link type deal at it doesn't work either.

Search for: Satellite 1000-S157

I also had trouble with the out-of-stock thing because I checked the "pickup at local store." Local pickup pretty much nixed this deal. The only way I could clear this was get rid of my office depot cookie. I was then able to order. Instead of deleting all cookies, I looked at my temp internet directory, sorted by date, and found the office depot cookie.

One more negative is the battery is NiMH, which supposedly don't last that long.

OD did screw up the specs. Check the specs at the Toshiba website and also Best Buy

It has 8mb Intel® 830MG integrated graphics controller and NO network card.

Even with all these "negatives" I think this is an excellent laptop for the price (under $700)...most places are carrying old PIIs for something near this price

Yeah, from what I can tell from the Best Buy picture (back view) there's a network socket, but it's plated off with some plastic cap.

If you are going to try to submit two rebates for $100 ea you would have to wait to 3-8-02 the rebate is for 3-8 to 4-16. Otherwise

you could do the $50 dollar Toshiba and the OD $100. Still you would have to come up with 2 original UPC to make it work.
