Is it me or does the specs on Toshiba site seems to point the 12X to have faster seek time that 16x? 16x spec 12x spec (But the 16x has higher sustained thru-put, as expected)

Furthermore, according to 12x overview the 12x should be UDMA capable, but on the 12x spec page, UDMA is dropped...anyone care to comment?

btw...they both seems to have the same CD/DVD standards supported, so I guess 12x and 16x both read the same types of CD/DVD/DVDRAMS

I am running Athlon 600, 32mb 128 rage fury pro, soundblaster 128, 128mb ram, gigabyte board, 5.2 GB Maxtor 5200rpm under Windows ME. Do i need different OS, Hard Drive, or Sound card???? PLease help am very frustrated.

hi is there anyway flashing the dvd back to its original firmware? I'm having problems with the drive. And thinking about returning it so I'm guessing the drive needs to have its original bios inorder to be still under warranty...

Is anyone having sound problems? When I play a DVD, I get crackling sounds. It's on a Celeron 600 with an Aureal sound card.

Jau, I would doubt it. If you return it, I don't think anyone will check the firmware rev. Plus, if they release the firmware to the public (don't know if that is the case here or not), then you have the right to flash it if you desire.

Seems like the availability screen was bogus :(

Order cancelled because the product is "discontinued". Of course, I never got an email from them about cancelling. Only got an email telling me it was backlogged. But when I check status, big fat cancel.

Check your status, people.

:(

Jerks. Took them 2 1/2 days to figure out their inventory system sucks and send me this:

---

Thanks for shopping at ONVIA

In our efforts to fulfill your recent order with us, our supplier has
notified us that the items on your order may not be available. Please see below for details:

(x) The item below on your order is currently on Backorder. Your order will remain on back order status unless you request it to be cancelled. We will notify you when the merchandise has shipped. You will not be billed for the item(s) until we obtain confirmation that the order has been shipped.

---

I'll have to call vox and bitch next week. Good thing I was in no *particular hurry* to get this! But the sooner the better... This was my first time with onvia and it's probably the last, unless there is a super hot deal on something I wouldn't need right away... This BS with inventory is no different then airlines overbooking flights...slimey.

phungus,

Try calling the people again, it seems like backorder => automatic cancellation. Again, they claim the product is discontinued and therefore decided to cancel everyone's order.

wow, i ordered when it said "19 left". guess i got lucky. maybe some people one these forums who aren't happy with the drive would like to sell theirs.

but not me! just got mine today, and it burns on-the-fly fine with my 8x burner. pretty quiet, and actually reads all CDs, unlike that dumb Raite from compgeeks...

$68 one is the S version...not the B (bulk). Almost as hot...but the other was hotter.

S comes with an extra sheet of doc/paper, I believe someone said.

<< unable to locate wnaspi32.dll >>

You need to install aspi layer. Try finding forceaspi or you might be able to get it from adaptec

Hey Daehkcid,

What do you mean, not a good deal? I think you mean 90 Canadian dollars? If not $72 shipped is less than $90. Not sure what exchange rate we are looking at, but then again, I wouldn't order from Canada anyway. Yeah, I've seen a lot of DVD-Rom drives for cheaper, but not a Toshiba with these specs.

If your going to post that you know of a better deal, at least give us the name of a store you found it at, or better yet a link.
