Are you sure B is for black? I thought it meant bare because its like less than half the shipping weight of the other one listed for $5 more. I ordered it yesterday, too bad they charge tax:(

What do you mean compatible with CloneCD...it's a reader, not a writer.

That means it works reading cds for copy in cdclone, will not write.

I think the B is for black, I searched for the model number and other sites sold the drive and the # with B said it was a black drive. Nice deal, the lowest other site I saw was $100. Im going to order one of these asap.

Garrett.

Any pics and reviews on this drive? Let us know how this drive works out when some of you get it. Does anyone know if watching dvd's on a Amd K6-2 550 w/128mb Voodoo3 2000 16mb pci using a software decoder will work well? I hope so.

sorry if this is dumb - what does "half-height" in the onvia description mean?

Picked one of these up. They have since increased it by $1 since I purchased these several weeks ago. The one they sent me was an Off-white color. Don't know what the "B" stands for, just as long as it does not mean refurbished or "B" items. Anyways upgraded to regionfree and everything works fine. Don't know what the half height means also. It is listed as half height on Toshiba's website. Nice and quiet drive.

I did an altavista search with "SD-M1402B" and found that in nearly every reference, this was described as a "BLACK" drive.

Half height means 1.5" high. Most CD/CD-R/CD-RW/DVD/etc are HH drives. This goes back to the old thing where full height drives were 3" high, and took 2 5.25" bays. I have a 9GB Full Height SCSI drive that I got for $40. A bit noisy, but works. And a beast. It's huge & heavy. But, did I say it works?? Most new Hard Drives are 3.5" Half Height or 1/3 Height (1").

No these are not regionfree. You need to find the "hacked" firmware 1010 to make it regionfree. You have to check to see whether the version you receive is capable to make it regionfree. The ones produced later are NOT regionfree.

You can find the firmware by searching on this forum or on google

Anyone order the "B" recently and got it?

BooGoo seems to get a non-black color.

I received mine about 1-2 weeks ago. Shipped quickly. Came wrapped in plastic inside a well padded box. No manual, cables, etc.

I ordered from Onvia when it stated that it was the "B" version, but still received the off-white one. Might have been a screwup in the delivery department, but it doesn't matter to me.

Nice, the black matches my tower...sweet deal, if it is, in fact, black :)

...been awhile since I shopped at Onvia; are there any coupons out there anymore for them? Haven't seen any in awhile, but maybe you guys know of some.

1) I also thought it was black, but I'm not confident. The reason is if you look for both 1402 DVD's on Onvia site they show the same "in-stock" quantity, which changed in unison for last 3 days since I ordered and posted it.
2) This one also has free shipping and no need for $100 purchase. True, it comes up as $7? shipping, which you could change back to free one. The only issue for me is they now seem to be shipping only from CA, so it'd take a while to find its way east. Before they used Ingram, the same as Buy.com, or McGlenn, with w/h all over, and I'd get it in a day.
3) Where is a good place to find un-locked eprom for this puppy? I'm not sure if I'll do it, but who knows?
Thanks.

Toshiba suffixes lot of their CD drives with "B". I have a XM-6202B which blends in nicely with my off white Enlight case.

Hmmmm.. Very interesting. I was going to order the non-b one from them in a couple of weeks for my new system. If the B is the same thing, then I'll just save a few bucks. :) Nothing wrong with that!

Man, I love this place!
