Where are all of these so called 'good' torrent sites that usually enable users to max out their connections? If isohunt and piratesbay are so bad, what are the good ones? I would have no problem sharing more if it meant I could max out my D/L speeds on it.

Shhhh their underground just like newsgroups lol. There underground BT trackers lol.

Heck even newsgroups in my opinion is pretty much still underground because most people don't even know what they are still.

Sure anyone can use them if they really want to but at first it takes a lot of time to figure out which most people don't want to do.

You sir are obviously 16 yo. There are a lot of trackers that are invite only, some harder to find and get invites for then others. Newsgroups are not underground even in the slightest, perhaps 10 years ago they were maybe even 5 years - certainly not now.

BTW where is my proof on the above? I have yet to hear from you.

And to SpecialK - PM me and I will help you out with getting started on that front. Give you resources and a few sites to try and get on (which were full last time I looked, but constantly do clean-ups on their users) and will most definetely max out your connection. I've already sent the same info to a bunch of people who have PM'd me since this thread started.

When you get home you will see it.

So what website do you use to see files on newsgroups or do you just use headers?

I use to use headers all the time and now really appreicate nzb files and sites where you can search newsgroup files at.

I would say I used headers and a free newsgroup server for a good year maybe even a year and a half.

Was the best way to get started in my opinion.

I know about BT and where you need invites. I just don't like it because you can be tracked so easily and someone can stop sharing at anytime just to be mean or because they have to turn the pc off.

Someone has to be online with their bt client open to beable to get the file you want.

I know that most of the time there is more than one person but sometimes there isn't.

Maybe not underground to you man but I guarantee you that if you went out and stopped random people who use the internet and asked them 'HAve you heard of Bittorrent' most would say yes. If you asked them 'Have you heard of newsgroups' they would probably think you are referring to some place like myspace. :p

Funny I was thinking the same thing about the NG users. Chances are none of the people posting here are on a SINGLE decent BT site, or they wouldn't all be so naive. Prove me wrong.

And in the same principal, NG is for old people who don't know anyone in order to get better non-public access to things. Trust me, I used to use nothing but NG, but that was before I discovered the "underground" BT scene. The only thing that can even come close to it is if your on 0day FTP sites and/or you have access to the invite only DC++ servers. I can pretty much guarentee that I'm on some underground trackers that nobody on this forum has even heard of. And no, of course I'm not going to give you information on them, thats how these things stay underground.

Public newsgroups are for the n00bs.
Whatever... Maybe some of us don't like having our 'net connection pounded. I've got VOIP phone service and if you've used it you know that call quality depends on a good upload speed. That said, I would rather not have a bunch of people downloading from me. I'll stick with Usenet. I'm currently downloading at 1.2Mb/sec right now. :D

Can anybody give me a link to a good guide on how to use newsgroups? I've heard about them for years, but I'm such a procrastinator if there's an alternative, which there is sorta.

Or just give me the basics, what program do I need, etc.? Do I have to like make a lot of friends, ala IRC, in order to find out how to get the good stuff or no?

Thats where newzbin comes in super handy. For a very small fee, you just browse their site, choose what you want, download the 1 or 2 meg NBZ file, and your good to go. I even have it set to email me all the new things (just on the topics I choose) daily.

In all honesty, I posted merely to instigate discussion.

Both methods are very effective, and the one you pick depends on your preference, and usually how your first experience went.

With anything that's worth while, it's just going to take a little time and effort, with either one.

Since some folks have already mentioned it, I'd like to express my love for Direct Connect. I'm not uber-cool leet haxors. I dont get in on the Illuminati hubs.
Overall its been a good network for me and some of the better clients like RevConnect are pretty darn powerful.

Oh, and I always have to share my main source of info:

How's comcast's giganews, I went on there and there wasn't much stuff ... but I'm still a newsgroups noob :)

Search on newzbin.com yourself.

You have to use the file option to find it :)

You really need to learn how to search. I know what your going to say next.
