Rolling through stuff with my Engineer. Skills for engineer aren't that interesting really. Seems like they pushed the gun robot way back or maybe I'm just mis-remembering from beta. Although that gunbot made the class WAY overpowered, haha. Got tier 1 on the health robot but been putting everything else into the heavy weapons or armor boost passives.

I did like the berserker skills from beta so may do him next.

If you start a SP character, can you play with him in MP too or do you have to start over in MP?

I'm at level 10 and I think the engineer is pretty fun. I have a badass cannon and with that huge blast I'm mowing stuff down. Then I'm also using the first spell you have with this socketed sword. Bouncing back and forth between the cannon and sword is fun.

fuck. phase. beast. portals.

lvl 13 hardcore character died to never ending spider waves, no red escape portal, can't tp.

My cannon eng hit one at level 8 or so. It was full of skeletons. Couldn't you just exit the portal you entered from? As long as you don't get surrounded, you should be able to leave any time you want. The area I was in was four squares with paths between them to form a sort of oval, with a bridge in between that had the portal, and I could approach it from either direction.

I didn't see the point, really. I thought at first there would be waves of mobs and a prize at the end, but they just kept coming, so I left when I dinged the next level. I guess that's the purpose, basically free xp and loot, as much as you want until you get tired of it.

I found two phase beast portals already (level 14 embermage). There's always a task. The first one was protecting four totems rising from the ground, and the second one was lighting four torches in a certain order (wrong order and you have to start over), all the times with waves and waves of all kinds of mobs coming in, of course. Lots of loot at the end, mostly piles of gold though. Fun stuff.

dammit. knew I shouldn't have bought this game. Just played 2.5 hours and now am an hour past my bedtime. Loving this game.

Thank you. It's always good to learn something about a new game. I will try to figure out the objective next time I encounter a phase portal.

Hey, did you guys see you could dl the st for free from Joystiq? http://www.joystiq.com/game/torchlight-2/download/torchlight-2-soundtrack

Got a unique scroll, out spawned an NPC that sold me Unique set pieces for tens of thousands of gold. I managed to buy 4 set pieces before I ran outa gold 😛.

question for anyone with experience... if I start a character in single player, will I later be able to play that same character over the internet or through a LAN with friends?

Yes, its just like open B.net from Diablo 2.

Edit: On a side note, I went through Act 2, thought I was done after a few hours, only to learn there's a whole nother zone. They really put a lot of effort into making the world huge.

Level 22 on my Engineer named Gaston (lol) and already got 1 two pieces set and ont f'ing amazing unique 2H hammer that I enchanted 2 times already. It's a beast!

Flame Hammer is a great skill, does lots of direct and AoE damage.

But overall the Eng skills are meh...but depends on how you want to build your toon.

This game is awesome, lots of fun, large areas and big dungeons, lots of monsters, items, quests...it's perfect for 20 bucks. Couldn't ask for more except to be able to finally complete my registration and play online 😛

Hi all, just got TL2 and lv 3, and so couldn't find out how to send my pet to town to buy potions. I got to the shopping list but there's no button to send the pet. I couldn't find any manual. Does anyone know?

When the pet menu is open, lower right corner, green icon.

When it is closed, I think it's in the upper left corner.

I just played a few hours, up to level 10 on my character. Best part of this game? I don't have to be online to play it! No lag! 🙂

BTW, noticed last night, if you put together your shopping list, close the pet sheet, then click the green icon in the upper left corner, it wipes out your shopping list. You MUST use the lower right corner green icon on the shopping list page if you want your pet to buy something. Not sure if this is a bug or by design. Seems like a bug.

So is it better to buy from steam or runic ? Runic you don't have steam drm; steam you get workshop and achivements. Any thoughts ?

OK, so far this is a lot of fun.

Torchlight wasnt much improved from Fate but Torchlight 2 is a heck of a lot better. I picked a female engineer complete with monocle and grey hair called Gertrude. Goggled ferret by the name of Lily Mae.
Looks like I will focus on the heavy weapons for the passive bonus and some of the better attack skills. But eventually most skill points will probably go into creations like the robots and spider drones.
I will probably have to ignore most of the shield skills in this game. Maybe the other warrior types will need a shield, I dont know.

I also rolled an engineer for my first character (doesn't help that I'm an engineer in RL, so kinda forced my hand). I got to around lvl 15, and I had a hell of alot more fun playing this than D3. I got plenty of drops, and already got a unique kick ass staff (saved it for when I play an embermage). I also got an awesome gem that gives +4% crit chance in a weapon.

The maps are also pretty large and varried. Not to mention quite a supply of scattered side quests with dungeons of thier own. With the possiblity of the side quests, phase beasts and finding the damn key to open some of the chests, it gives you a reason to explore the entire map areas.

The only thing I would like is to be able to reset all my skill selections (not just my last 3), but that might be available later in the game, or at the very least I know someone will mod that ability in shortly.

I also got a beserker up to around level 6. They are alot of fun to play. They can't take hits as well as the engineer, but they have a variety of lifesteal skills to help offset that.

Alright, still at a very low level but lucky with the drops and have 30 ice armor, shame that most of the enemies are using flame against me.

I beat the super skeleton general. He kept rushing me with minions but that just built up my charge bar faster and I nailed everyone with powered up flame hammers. So far thats my favorite ability, followed by the healing bot. I like that little guy. Nobody attacks him and he lasts a really long time. I bought back my points from shield bash. Will definitely be using two handed weapons throughout the game.

Do the other classes have a charge bar?

They all have a bar, but I think it functions differently for each class.

I had my first death on veteran difficulty in One-Eyed Willy's cave. I was fighting a group that had a unique embedded with it (unbeknownst to me) and turned around to tell the dogs to knock it off. Turned back and I was on death's door and couldn't recover. My little heal bot couldn't keep up.
