Played for 4 hours last night as an engineer. I am using a cannon and putting most of my skill points in the long range cannon blast and the stomp ability for when I get surrounded. It is a blast so far. I also gave my ferret a fireball spell...pretty funny watching that little thing scurry around shooting fireballs out of his nose.

Does anyone know if there is a way to unsocket gems? I couldn't find a guy in town to do this like in torchlight 1.

Yes there is. He should be in the middle circle in town.

Finally got some abilities to charge my bar faster. Couldnt decide between a heavy cannon with knockback, or a fast crossbow. Then I saw I could get special cannon abilities and the choice was easy. Been using that for a bit, the knockback and powerful fire bonus are nice.
Found some good fish, am impressed with the pet transformations so far. In previous games they were a little meh.

Beat the skeleton pirate king and got one-eyed willy's other eye. Also got lucky and found a lighting enchanter walking around. Went back with another weapon and the bastard disappeared as soon as I tried talking to him.

This is refreshing getting loot to drop that is good not that crap in D3. So far this is a fun game and liking it.

I made a caster and going wands. I'm owning everything at range with my ice wand. I see you guys that went engineer have a heal bot. I wish I could get one. I have feeling I'll be hording lots of potions at higher levels.

Beat the Grell. Found the sexy commander and that neat water guardian. Finally got access to the force field and that made the boss much easier.

Got a unique staff that upgrades after killing goblins. Did it. Upgrades were unimpressive, but at least they didnt raise the minimum level or stat requirement. Also found unique Boomstick and Gyro Helmet.

Am enjoying knockback and stun for keeping hordes off my ass.

I will probably have to ignore most of the shield skills in this game. Maybe the other warrior types will need a shield, I dont know.

I'm taking my engineer sword/board... given that the other 3 classes are 100% dps, I figured I'd go tank-y/support a bit. there are also some nice skills to do damage with your shield

100% this the cartoon look has got to go.

eh... given a presumably-limited budget, I'd rather have good looking cartoony graphics than bad looking "realistic" graphics.

Awesome game. Rolled an Engi like I did in beta with a cannon.

What attributes are engi's going for? Str and Vit?

Mostly Str, but I've been putting a few in others to get items I wanted to use. I've barely touched dexterity, and probably put more in magic than most engineers, but the extra mana and bonuses are nice. I haven't done much with Vit either other than for gear but that's because I haven't felt a need. I've only come close to death a couple times but was fairly easily escapable.

I'm at level 10 and I think the engineer is pretty fun. I have a badass cannon and with that huge blast I'm mowing stuff down. Then I'm also using the first spell you have with this socketed sword. Bouncing back and forth between the cannon and sword is fun.

yeah, pretty much what i am doing also, although I have this bad ass greathammer. That thing just plows through the enemies.

Cannons are fun too, but slow.

I found two phase beast portals already (level 14 embermage). There's always a task. The first one was protecting four totems rising from the ground, and the second one was lighting four torches in a certain order (wrong order and you have to start over), all the times with waves and waves of all kinds of mobs coming in, of course. Lots of loot at the end, mostly piles of gold though. Fun stuff.

i did 1 phase beast portal as well. i had to walk around this long thin stretch of land to a portal that took me to another area that had 3 levers and 3 statues. you pull a lever and several waves of enemies came out. once done, the statue was destroyed and you did the same thing for the other 2.

each statue hid a chest and I think the last one hid 2 golden chests or something like that.

Just defeated Grell and got two unique drops - an Embermage piece from Grell himself and an Outlander piece from his boss chest. Too bad I can't use either.

haha, seems like everyone went engineer and ferret.

i too, took the ferret, lol.

i haven't used a single health potion. did use a mana potion once though.

i find that my health robot either goes missing or dies a lot.

I went Embermage and took the bulldog as a pet. Level 10, playing Veteran, haven't died once.

Level 17 Engineer right now.
Playing on normal... it's pretty damned easy.
I can let my pet (bulldog) kill most everything (except bosses or unique monsters). I've used a few health potions when I wasn't paying attention.

Got my droid healing/mana. And slowly building my cannon (BOOM!!!!) skill.

WAY too much fun.

Same here though Im on normal and its pretty easy. The bulldog can pretty much kill everything on his own. Prismatic light seems to be real overpowered. I can be running away from someone and still hit them. Im putting all my skill points into that and some passives.

LOL, same here. Made the mistake of putting a skill point in the passive teleport skill. Sucks when I'm smacking an enemy with my staff and "poof" he teleports somewhere else on the screen. I have to go run him down.

I guess I'm the only one but I'm kind of regretting buying this game. I guess I'll give it another shot, played 30 mins as a berserker and wasn't really impressed by anything.

Try owning face with the outlander.

I'm definitely going to give it more time this weekend and try a different character. The problem is, reading the last few pages since release and EVERY SINGLE person that has responded has responded about the Engineer. Which doesn't really appeal to me.

The gun toting outlander does though so I'll see about that

wow, found out why my health robot is always disappearing. Any time I enter or leave a portal or dungeon, he is unsummoned. that sucks

seems like melee weapons have more dps than ranged and are more frequent drops.

I have a unique greatsword called the Decapitator and my damage is like 151 - 251. My cannon is like 68-150

PUT THE LOTION IN THE BUCKET! lol
