Yeah, I got mine as well. I wish they would have done it prior to Diablo's release though. It's like choosing sex with one bodacious babe that will leave in a few days over another bodacious babe that... won't.

I tried it a bit, graphics are pretty meh, i like the speed my ranged guy moved at though. I will buy it for $20 still, but after playing with the Diablo 3 interface to chat with people on your friends list from anywhere and drop in and out of games, other hack and slash's are not going to seem the same.

Are you a goon? I hate that term.

In WoW, pretty much every guild would refer to pub/pug groups for dungeons. It just means people not in your little sub-community. I know forums other than SA also refer to non-forum players as pubbies too.

So do the mobs level you with you? If they do I'm out. The problem I had with T1 was when I level so did the mobs but in the early levels you can get spells to keep it even but around the 50 level's and up it got to the point where you run out of damage spells that increased you power and the only way to keep up with good damage was to enchant your weapons. Well we all know how enchanting worked if you failed it broke your weapon and lost all your damage. I ran out of money from enchanting and had all broke weapons and then my damage was shit. So what was happening for me was that the mobs got more HP and it was taking me longer and longer to kill as I leveled up which became to much of a chore and started to suck.

pug = pick-up group.

just standing around spamming general chat to find some group to quest together. To me, that's sort-of the main purpose of an MMO. You win some, and you lose some.

I used a mod that removed the potential breaking component when you enchanted your gear. Yeah, you end up wiht some rather serious gear early on, but it does kinda break the game, hehe.

I was planning on playing later tonight since I beat Diablo III this weekend, but I did watch a video a few days back. It looks like enchanting no longer has a chance to remove all stats off your gear. I'm not 100% sure, but when I saw the enchanting window, it no longer had any indicator of a "disenchant chance" like in the original.

However, based on what was said in the video, you can only enchant an item so many times. Certain enchanters are more powerful than others, and they are capable of enchanting an item more times.

As for mods in Torchlight, I found the game only decent to play with the following mods: Superior Drops, Price Adjustment, No Disenchant. Those aren't the exact names, but essentially, the superior drops + price adjustment gave you enough money to afford some enchanting. Enchanting still becomes ridiculously expensive after awhile. Some of my items cost around 20,000 gold each time. However, this was pretty much required, because casters could destroy you without enough enchants that would provide elemental resistances.

I know what PUG is, just never heard the term pubbies before used.

Had a lot of fun playing Torchlight 2. I usually get bored of these type of hack/slash games but it kept my attention.

And for 20 dollars how can you beat that.

I played a Berserker up to level 14 tonight.

Some of my thoughts...

  • Torchlight II makes Diablo III feel like it takes place in a retirement home. This sequel was just fast... you zip around like a kid on a sugar high, and destroy enemies just as fast.
  • Akin to the meme, this game pretty much tells, you "shut up and take my loot!" The game practically throws loot at you, and I didn't get the same feeling when I played Diablo III. I guess it was more that I also found items that were actually good for me!
  • Much to another poster's dismay, the lifestealing gem does appear to be gone. The skull now grants +attack speed. However, I didn't have an issue with my Berserker. Berserkers do have some abilities to help restore life, which probably makes it a bit easier.
  • The game does level enemies with you.
  • Enchanting no longer appears to be able to disenchant items; however, your enchants can fail in that they will do nothing. You do lose the gold when this happens.
  • The pet is still as awesome as always. I chose the bulldog.
  • They need to work on the sound effects. Some of them are just... bad. The bulldog can get annoying with his Hooch-style slobbering, and opening a sarcophagus sounds like you're torturing parakeets. Those two effects stuck out at me, but most of the standard attacks and stuff seemed fine.
  • I kind of wish they would have a little more customization in the faces. If you're going to offer a darker skin and a lighter skin, offer the same faces in each.
Overall, I think it's worth getting.

Played an Engineer up to level 11 last night.

- Game seems very polished.
- Mechanics haven't changed from TL1 and graphinc, while similar seem slightly brighter.
- Animations, especially combat animations, have been ramped up and are pretty cool.
- Didn't run into any bugs in two hours of playing and setting up an "online" game was seemless
- Bringing the game up and exploring on the world's surface makes the game feel less than a grinder, unlike TL1 when you get to about the 20th dungeon level and you're asking yourself "Will this ever end?".
- While I have only gotten 3 at one time, that's still two more sidequests you could get in TL1.
- I chose the Ferret for my pet.
- Engineer has some cool skills, including turrets and spider bombs.
- If I saw it correctly, there may be level increases that give you more than 5 ability and 1 skill points. Not entirely sure if that's true or I just forgot to allocate after a previous level increase.
- Nice little new touch of allowing you to choose one piece of equipment out of three choices after completion of a quest.
- Need to work on environmental sound level. Even with it cranked up, I had a hard time hearing the narrator at time. Music level was fine.
- Oh, and I started at Veteran (third highest difficulty) level and only died twice. Didn't seem too hard at all.

I might as well add my two cents. Played an engineer to the end of beta (level cap of 21). My thoughts:

- The game is fast and hectic. I loved rushing in to large groups and unleashing AOE attacks.
- Art style is very much like Torchlight 1. The game looked sharp at 19x12.
- Open environments and varied dungeons are a much welcome change.
- Pets still rock. They now have the option to buy items (health/mana potions, identify scrolls, etc.) as well as sell your junk.
- Tons of loot. By the end of the demo, I had a unique polearm and cannon which I rotated in battle.
- Cannons are awesome.
- No crashes/bugs/glitches in game or in the online setup.
- No more combining lower quality gems to make nicer ones.
- Enchanting no longer runs the risk of losing all of the enchants on the item.
- For 20 bucks, the value is huge.

I'm sure there is more, but the bottom line is I would have paid $50 for the game. At $20, there is no reason to not get this.

Finished as well with Berserker last night.

If you liked TL1, you will very much enjoy TL2. The only area for improvement is maybe the MP, would be good to have a group join in at the same time and is there a ingame voip chat ?

If there is time before they close up the beta, I will try out Outlander.

rumor is that its being released June / July time frame.

I tried it a bit for the beta weekend, honestly could not get into it to much or give it the proper time with D3 just coming out.

I assume the beta weekend is over? They say if there is going to be another one i would like to play it more, i will buy it for sure though.

I agree that the closed beta weekend ends on Tuesday 5/22, I was hoping it was going to be till midnight to allow couple more hours of game play after work. Oh well, on the flip side this could mean a very successful beta test without many hiccups and the final release coming sooner then later.
