I did not watch it with sound on but that looked so incredibly cheesy and full of predictable bs that it's actually made me rethink how awful of a movie the original is (and i loved it as a kid)

More of that there supercharger-equipped Kawasaki H2. 🙂

Too much bike!

Confused by the passenger on an H2 though. Last I checked the bike doesn't have a passenger seat or passenger footpegs.

Edit: it seems there's some "sx" model which supports an optional passenger seat.

I agree; the original was was terrible, and I also loved it as a kid.
He was just talking about the motorcycle?
What did you expect from a guy with a BullOfShitfield quote in his sig?

Isn't that part of the attraction ?? 😛

I mean, that's the fun of movies. To me, there's kind of a movie matrix of enjoyability:

1. Movies that are legit good that I enjoy
2. Movies that are stupid that I enjoy
3. Movies that are dumb that I do not enjoy

For example:

1. Ironman #1 - super fun, brought back Superheros to the big screen, great job, really enjoyed it
2. Bill & Ted #1 - super dumb but super fun. I'll watch this every time it comes on TV.
3. Sharknado - I was hoping that it would be a fun-dumb movie like Bill & Ted, but it was so bad I couldn't make it through it. I tried.

Top Gun is one of those fun movies that is kind of silly, but if you can relax & let yourself enjoy it, then you can have a good time. If all you see is the predictability & typical Hollywood lameness, well, then you'll never be disappointed lol! But that's not the point or intention of movies like these. For this one, at least, it pushes my "COOL!!" button. Definitely gonna see it on the big screen!

3. Sharknado - I was hoping that it would be a fun-dumb movie like Bill & Ted, but it was so bad I couldn't make it through it. I tried.

Heathen!! Sharknado was exactly bad enough to be a hoot. The second one was pretty bad/good too. The others were so bad that they don't qualify.

Did you see Lavalantula? That was similar to the first Sharknado, bad enough to be good and it actually got positive reviews. I've heard there's a new one titled Clownado. What a wonderful time to be alive.

Huh?

Introduced a few short years ago as the fastest production motorcycle and the only major manufacturer bike with a factory supercharger, the modern Kawasaki Ninja H2R is a sight to behold. It's an exciting bike, not "a movie" and not "entertainment."

Perhaps you don't know this, but the original Top Gun did a lot to popularize sportbikes by featuring the very first Ninja (Kawasaki Ninja GPZ900). Before that, sport bikes were just afterthoughts for the major manufacturers. Usually just souped up engines with aerodynamic fairings thrown on bikes/frames built for standards. Look no further than those boxy flat-faced headlights that persisted even into the early Ninja years (all the way to 2007 for the Ninja EX250F).

It's very appropriate that the new movie features the street-legal version of the H2R, the Kawasaki Ninja H2 (non "R"). I'll never own one for a variety of reasons... chief among them, I like having skin. Still, I'm glad to know that you can now get a version that supports an optional passenger seat. That'll definitely help a few more riders excuse the upgrade who otherwise couldn't justify it.

This bike is a monster and really shows what 35 years of advancement has brought us to:

They picked that bike specifically to get this kind of reaction.

The fighter jet enthusiasts are probably geeking out over all the planes too, since we didn't have stuff like the F35 back then. I just hope they don't wuss out and do CG everything, since real fighter jets made the original so much more visceral. Years ago I said a movie like that could never be made again but, well, seeing dedication from the likes of Nolan and Tarantino where they refuse to use CG as a crutch when making modern spectacles, I'm hoping they prove me wrong. Not holding out hope there though. I mean, someone even died during the first production so it's hard to justify vs. simple, cheap, easy, safe, and convincing-enough, CG.

They’re using some technology on this that is never before seen. We’re shooting the movie in, I think, 6K. So it’s incredibly hi-def. The aerial footage is mind-blowing. And it’s mostly practical.

There’s not a lot of CG. Those guys are really up in planes and getting thrown around in multiple Gs.
