No KOTOR or Duke Nukem?

XCOM at #1 makes this a good list though.

I was disgusted to see Sid Meier's Pirates on that list thinking it was the remake for some reason. I was pleasantly surprised when i went to the website and saw that it was the original from 1987. That game was the shit back then. I think i played the remake for a couple days then resold it - friggin dancing simulator? WTF.

Civilization IV at #3? Really? I mean, Civ 4 was great, but #3 all-time on the PC?

Civilization II is a better game (if you consider its time) than Civilization IV.

Starcraft at #16?

No RTS Warcraft game?

Diablo at #24 but no Diablo 2 on the list?

Major fail.

Good to see Crysis on the list. It really is fantastic. People like to block out this game by putting an artificial wall between them and this game with unfounded regurgitated opinions.

Is that list based on "for its time" games? Because a LOT of those games can't hold a candle to games of today. X-COM: UFO Defense as of today? Yeah no thanks. The original Sim City better than, hell, even Sim City 2000? Flawed list is flawed. Though like it was mentioned above, it's nice to see Crysis on the list, and Civ 4.

I played Crysis through to the end, and it has no place on that list.

I would dissagre. All the games i played that are on that list have absorbed a large portion of my life, crysis is the only game that i didn't spend too much time playing. Don't know. I enjoyed playing it, but it got old towards the end.

Posting a "best of" list pretty much makes this a troll thread. Everybody's going to bitch that something's missing from the list, or there are games on there that shouldn't be. Regardless, one thing I will say: I'm glad to see Grim Fandango on there.

Wow. I totally missed that Crysis was on the list. Crysis has no place on a Top Games list...maybe a Top 25 "Generic FPS Inefficiently Coded To Not Run Well On Hardware Until Five Years After Release So It Can Be Used As A Benchmark To Still Sell Copies" list. In which case, it would be #1.

Nice to see System Shock 2 and Deus Ex on the list, but how are they not #1 and #2?

It seems like they intentionally only have one game from a series or franchise on the list. So Sim City, but no Sim City 2000. Mechwarrior 2, but no Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. And C&C, but no Red Alert.

Also, they forgot Dark Messiah. Edit: Oh, and they forgot VtM: Bloodlines.

Right, with the "me too" mentality of aligned opinions for the game it's easy to see why you have that view. Me, I can can see why it's on that list.

No, no they didn't.

The whole list is subjective anyway. No one is going to agree with the entire thing. I just wish it was a real list rather than one that tries to appeal to people who are blinded by nostalgia. Does anyone honestly think Diablo 1 is better than Diablo 2? In any way, shape, or form? I'm pretty sure the answer is no, yet there it is, on the list. The list was created to call out series of games. It's just more trash from IGN, like usual.

To determine what qualifies a game as one of the "best" in the long history of PC gaming, we took into account how much fun the game was when it was released, how much fun it is now and the extent to which it invented or refined the core concepts of its genre and gaming in general.

Under those guidelines some of their choices make a bit more sense, but there are still some that shouldn't be on the top 1000 under any guidelines(well, Crysis for graphics- but that is certainly it).

Why, pray tell, is it on the list?

I think, despite the OP omitting to say so in the title, that it appears to be a "Top 25 PC Games" list. Considering it was posted in the PC Forum, and the article is in the PC section of IGN.

I think BF1942 is a great game. Comparing it to HL doesn't really make sense though. You are talking about a big multiplayer game and a great singleplayer game. They each have different experiances. Like said above, it is all subjective.

It looks to me like a list with several very memorable games, and then they threw in several games they've had fun playing recently.
