Probably pointless, but I'm bored.
# 09 Only in America... could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when they have a black President, a black Attorney General and roughly 20% of the federal workforce is black while only 14% of the population is black, 40+% of all federal entitlements goes to black Americans - 3X the rate that go to whites, 5X the rate that go to Hispanics!
So, is the concept here is that only white people can be discriminatory? Or is it that if we have black leaders then no one else could possibly be discriminated against? Are you really trying to claim that racism no longer exists?
# 08 Only in America... could they have had the two people most responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner (the head of the Treasury Department) and Charles Rangel (who once ran the Ways and MeansCommittee), BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.
Yes, because only in America does the people in charge of important things abuse that power for their own personal gain. Glad to know that no where else in the world do they have this problem.
# 07 Only in America... can they have terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be harmed by the backlash.
Muslims were harmed by the backlash. Muslims that had nothing to do with terrorism. Muslims who are peaceful members of our society. Muslims who are American citizens.
It was a reasonable concern.
Nearly every serial killer in the history of America has been Christian, a number of them specifically killed because God told them to. Should I condemn all christians as serial killers? You could decide at any time that God has told you to kill me.
# 06 Only in America... would they make people who want to legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege, while they discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just 'magically' become American citizens. (probably should be number one)
I don't think that it is magic that would make them American Citizens. I am fairly sure they would become American citizens the same way every one else did, by the rule of law.
Of course we could solve your primary moral dilemma by simply making it easier to become an American citizen so those people would not have to sit in their home countries and spend tens of thousands of dollars. It would also get rid of all those illegals, since they would now be legals, you could then unclench your pearls. That is the real solution to your problem.
# 05 Only in America... could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country's Constitution be called EXTREMISTS.
No, in any country people that hold extremist views are called extremist, no matter what their views of other issues might be.
# 04 Only in America... could you need to present a driver's license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.
Many countries do not have voter identification laws, but have age limits for alcohol (the government does not require ID verification for cashing a check). In Switzerland you only have to have a sword on you to vote!
# 03 Only in America... could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. Oil company (Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).
Is it Marathon Oil people are demanding be investigated or ExxonMobil, the richest company in the world, that they are requesting be investigated?
# 02 Only in America... could you collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a Trillion dollars more than it has per year - for total spending of $7 Million PER MINUTE,and complain that it doesn't have nearly enough money.
Well, yes, only America fits those fairly specific criteria. But lots of countries run at a deficit.
# 01 Only in America.... could the rich people - who pay 86% of all income taxes - be accused of not paying their "fair share" by people who don't pay any income taxes at all.
If the rich own 90% of all the wealth, and are paying 86% of the taxes, then they are not paying their fair share by 4%. That is how math works.
