I went to pick my son up from his friends and took my lappy with me just to see if I could find anyone with wireless and see if it was open-unsecured. I failed to believe that people would be so stupid as to leave thier wi fi open. Well it is a little over a 1/2 mile and there is 10 houses along the way. I came across 6 wi-fi's and only 1 had any type of security turned on. I even stopped for about 30 seconds and was able to access the internet from one.
Now all I have is a HP Pavilion ze 5375 with a built in wi-fi card and Windows XP wireless auto config software. I am not running any wi-fi finder or encryption breaking software. How is it that people can be so blind? If I am not mistaken, can I not have access to their pc given a few minutes hooked into their wi-fi? All them did not even change the broadcast name which probably means they did not change the password either
For those who will ask, yes I have all my security features on. WPA on SSID off MAC addy authorization .
