Too much damn money for a suit

Try outlet stores like Century 21, and Saks Off 5th. You can get mid level suits for $350-400. I got a Boss black label suit at Century 21 for $400 which has become my favorite suite. It's crap shoot though so you may not find anything.

Maybe it's different by me I've never seen a 100% wool suit at JCPenny or Kohls. They are always polyester crap.

Again, in Louisvile Ky so no sweet outlets here that I know of. Was surprised to find the HS&&M at the Dillards mens store in the same mall as the BB, considering they dont seem to even have suits on their website.

Your body type sets up well for HS&M.

Don't buy double breasted. That seems like your best choice. Although a lot of the guys that have come into work lately claim DB is coming back. Although the same guy did have a Louis Vuitton briefcase, so who knows.

i love miltons. men's warehouse i think is just ok at best, and overpriced.

i got my favorite suit (super 150, european cut) at miltons for about $250 including alterations. i grabbed a few machine-washable no-iron shirts shirts (2 white, 2 blue) at the same time and couldn't be happier.

Sounds like you have done some good research. Two additional things:

One
Fit is very important. Whatever suit you get, make sure that you feel comfortable in it.

Two
It is a good time to invest in accessories. For example, make sure that you have ties, belts, and shoes that work with your suit.

From my point of view, its much better to feel comfortable and confident than it is to drop a lot of money on a particular suit.

I got the same Madison suit, I said it was a little baggy but they tailored the whole thing to a perfect fit, it looks amazing on me. Only paid about 600 for it.

IMHO, i'm only getting BB suits from now on, the quality, cut and fit are very good.

I only have BB non-iron brookscool shirts now as well, I never iron them, just dry clean once a month and hang them once I get home. People always ask me how my shirts are always so crisp.
 
Check out as many off-the-rack suits you can and pick the one that you like the best in the chest, shoulders, and arm holes. Everything else can be fixed in post-production.

And I'd check Macys before JC Penney.

Edit: Oh you already bought the suit. As far as accessories ... make sure the belt matches the shoes (if you're wearing a belt). White shirt & a light blue shirt are great starters/basics. Grab a few ties at Macys or something (always on sale, and pretty good designs... check out the slim patterned Nautica ties). More advanced: something with a light pattern, like a light blue tattersall or gingham. Grab two pairs of nice leather shoes, a black and a dark brown/chocolate.

Macy's will be just as expensive as BB for most of their suits and BB IMHO is of better quality.

JC Penney has a great suit for surprisingly little cost.
 
Tried the Fitzgerald and the Regent, didnt fit right and sales staff was steering me off, in my own words I'm too 'square' for those cuts. Grabbed the brochure for the store card and went for it, got another 15% and came out right at $500 for the suit plus $15 for an alteration and should net me another $20 gc to use for a tie.

Now looking for shirts still as I got sticker shock when I discovered the basic colors I need(white,blue) were still at 3 for $219. Would have stacked the 15% off from opening the card but passed and some regret there, thought still would prefer to be closer to $40 or less per shirt.

BB initially measured me as a 16.5/17 and 34, Dillards put me at 16 and 33, which is what fit in the Ken Cole. I have fairly broad shoulders/chest and I like a shirt that accents them by being a bit tight on the chest and then sticks on the sides without being glued on. Figure since they aren't going to be tailored I have some more time to play with shirts, might even find the Ken Coles I liked but didn't love online at amazon for less. Any suggestions for shirts if anyone is still reading?
 
I prefer Charles Tyrwhitt to BB for shirts (non iron only). Good selection, no shirt pocket (British shirt), brass collar stays, and the slim fit is perfect on me. Depending on the sale, you can get them 35 to 40 dollars.

BB shirts are like wearing a tent (the regular fit at least -the one that is one down from the biggest size).

CT shirts don't seem to hold up. BB does have traditional, regular, slim and a very slim fit and pocket/no pocket...etc.

Best time to buy BB shirts are the semi-annual sales. I got 4 shirts for $160. Not too bad. They have a great return policy.

I think their only physical store in the USA is in New York City. To me, it fits true to size. Pretty much the only dress shirt I wear nowadays - no drycleaner, just wash and wear. They've held up at least the 1 year I've had most of em.

Their year round sale is 4 for $200, though there's often a better sale, a coupon, or the ability to shop on the UK site, pay in pounds, and generally get it shipped to you cheaper than just buying on the US site.
 
For shirts, the Macy's around here is a huge selection of various brands. I can usually find what I need there.

As for fit, just look for "fitted" or "slim fit" on the package. They nearly all fit loose, that includes Kenneth Cole, Perry Elis, G. Beene, Hugo, or whatever. Most of them have slim and regular cut styles. Just make sure you get one that fits you.

The exception is for places like Express and Banana Republic that generally only sell fitted styles. But I wouldn't buy dress shirts at either. Their cut and style is modern but the quality sucks.
