Too bad there is no perfect Browser. :( Firebird is great unless you need activex.

God, i hate going back and forth between the two browsers but when firebird works it's CLEARLY better than IE, but there are some sites (particularly MS Sites, hmm wonder why) that really only work well with IE.

This really sux.

My opinions exactly. I used Opera for a while, but some sites would refuse to load in it, especially flash ones. If they would, the experience wasn't the same.

Faster, more secure, more customizable (Can even compile it yourself for the true DYI crowd), better overall page rendering etc.. (save the fvckers @ M$)

Who needs ActiveX? Hell M$ is telling you to turn that sh!t off anyway cause they can't patch it themselves.....

I've seen 4-5 sites where Flash worked in Opera but not at all in firebird.. one that comes to mind right now, phong.com.

better overall page rendering etc..
Depends... IE is much MUCH more forgiving when it comes to bad coding. and IE supports WAYYY more HTML/DHTML features (which can also lead to more security holes).

it feels less laggy and more stable than IE.
IE has only crashed on my system maybe.. >10 times in the two+ years i've been running XP on my box. Firebird has crashed about 5-6 times since I've been using it.. (three of those times were on the same page.. with audio). And IE loads faster and renders HTML and handles large images MUCH MUCH better then Firebird. (firebird takes forever on like 300kb + html files - and is horrible at pages with 20+ full size images like 800x600).

Firebird also 'has problems with' mime types. If a server doesnt set the mime types correctly on its end.. firebird ends up downloading as clear text.. IE and Opera are more forgiving in this respect. Though they are deviating from the standard where as firebird isnt...

I bet some that read my post, think im an IE fan.. I actually switched to Firebird back in May and have been using it ever since.. I've also gotten my dad to switch, and three online friends.. I use Opera on occasion also.. I still use IE for windows updates and certain pages where IE is required (launch.com)

Am I missing something? ;)

I actually suggested to all my users (130 Remote) that switching to Firebird was "strongly" suggested... it should help keep some of my knucklehead users from wrecking another laptop. ;)

PS: Ouch @ the Phong link! :(

I've found that most sites that don't work with firebird aren't worth the extra effort. The only time I will load up internet explorer for a web site is if i need it to download a driver or something like that.

umm, isnt IE still a security concern even if you are not using IE

i'm not sure, but i would imagine you are less likely to pick up adjunk if you browsing with firebird over IE.

I use avant browser. Firebird is total crap..laggy, takes forever to load pages with images, somewhat unstable. IE alone is feature-less, but it works well. I like avant for the tabbed browsing, pop-up blocker, mouse gestures, etc. All the features of firebird, without all the bugs.
