Tony Stewart killed a 20 year old dirt track driver....

Well, after watching that I'm gonna have to flip opinion again as in slo-mo you can see where the car fishtailed to the right first, then back to the left. I still think TS just wanted to scare the crap out of the kid and probably never thought he would try and get that close to his car. Bad decisions by both people here with tragic result, I'm still sticking with one settles this type of deal AFTER the race is over as is the usual manner.

From watching it, the only reason why he fishtails is because he hit the person, you can't even see what happens before that.

Watch the first car go by. Watch the wing. You will see it sway as the first car has to avoid him, and you can see the back end of THAT car slide out too.

Sprint cars spend half their time sideways. It's like driving on ice. If Tony turned away from the guy (as you would expect him to do) the back end IS going to kick out. Just like the car immediately in front of Tony did.

The kid was stupid, and there's no way you can peg this on Tony Stewart as murder just from that video. I'm a fairly objective observer: I don't give two shits about Tony Stewart. Tragic.

So when it's dark out, there are possibly people on the track since it is caution, and you have limited visibility the best solution is to come around the corner sideways with the throttle pinned?

its dirt. its a small track which basically you are basically in a constant left turn. almost any correction you can possibly make will turn your car sideways. ever drive a manual on dirt? sad to see people here not know what downshifting is even in a non racing aspect.

800+ hp on a vehicle that weighs less than a Fiat on dirt. even a laymens common sense comes into play.

I know about Midgets myself a bit.

I think he was trying to turn and spray the kid with dirt.

Yeah, they mostly slide like drifting.

Bad judgement all around, the kid shouldn't have been out there like that.

Funny how that's what you see.

What I see is a bunch of amateurs miss that kid and the one professional nail his butt, while under caution.

Luckily, that kid was obviously a terrorist who hated Tony for his freedoms. I could see the box cutters when I looked closer.

I think you missed the part where the terrorist chose to step right in front of the path of the car that ultimately hit him.

You mean the car that was riding high on the track where the wrecked car was, and getting squirrely, under a caution?

I can see the PR campaign is in full swing, but none of you needs to worry. Tony is a multi-million dollar corporation and multi-million dollar corporations don't get charged with murder, no matter how many people they kill. He will pay a fee (after he is sued and pays ridiculous amounts of money to cover up his liability) and continue racing because the almighty dollar must keep rolling.

'Murica, F&%$ YEAH!!!!!

Now, how about the comments that Kevin deserved to die - does anyone care to address those?

Like a person jumping off the golden gate, walking into traffic has its consequences.

That's probably the sort of comment you're referring to? It's agreeable, he shouldn't have done that. It's a tragedy that he chose to do so, but I don't see that the drivers had much opportunity to choose. Police say the first sprint car managed to swerve out in time, Tony did not.

You can choose to condemn him for that, or somehow discern his intent, but I think there are plenty of factors involved which limit a driver's ability to avoid someone walking in front of them. It was dark, it was dirt, it was a turn, and there were other cars. There was no expectation nor precedent for this sort of tragedy.

Maybe you're looking for malice.

Or maybe Stewart was riding high during a caution when he knew the wreck was up high as well, not to mention going fast enough that his car fish tailed under a caution (right when he got near the guy no less, who was also high up on the track where the wreck was).

Darwin Award?

Darwin was a fraud, a eugenicist poser lifted up by a corrupt education system meant to enslave us all. Looks like it worked.

Some people you just can't have a conversation with, they even make up facts, when that happens, it's best to just ignore them and move on.

Unless I missed something, the kid's car crashed coming out of a turn straightening out. He ran back into the turn on a mud course where cars were sliding around while turning.

We'll see what the cops say.

I was agreeing with you on most things, but I'm not a NASCAR watcher anyways.

You've pretty much invalidated any future opinions in my mind I guess.

I mean really ?

That just sounds ignorant to anyone.

First of all, the engine rev you hear in the video is from the near part of the track, not the far. If you watch the CNN video, which is the same video, but a longer clip, you see the camera zoom in and realize there is a closer part of the track that you are hearing the carts from.

Secondly, the blue car swerved to miss the walking driver, You see Tony's car swerve to the left, but it isn't until after the spoiler makes contact with the guys head and drags him. A collision at that speed is going to cause the car to swerve upon impact. Watch it frame by frame, he doesn't swerve into the guy, he swerves after hitting him.

you guys are looking for malicious intent which just isn't there.

Are you an expert now?

If not, then leave it to them to make the final call.

If it was Mark Martin driving this would be nothing but an unavoidable tragic accident.

Since it was Stewart it's murder.

That's what years of building a reputation as a hothead will do to people.

It makes me really sad that probably every person in this thread has the right to vote. I know you can't fix stupid, but do we have to let them help decide our future too?

I hate to make judgments before I know the facts but you arm chair quarterbacks are mind numbing.
So I'll weigh in... I would guess that Tony's vision was blocked by the car in front of him that swerved and Tony's fishtailing was a result of him making a last second attempt to avoid the guy that walked into the middle of a fucking race track.

You mean the guy that NASCAR actually mandated to take anger management courses gets mad at an event like this and stomps on the pedal ?

Yeah nothing out of character there.

Like I've said before, I'm not even a NASCAR fan but the wife follows him so I hear things.

Both share the blame equally IMO. The kid made a reckless choice, and Stewart tried to either scare him, or tried to run him over knowing he could get away with it since the kid was on the track. Stewart is not innocent IMO.

Bingo!

Anyone watches these sprints know the surface is as slick as ice, the cars go around the track pretty much side way the entire time. His tail kicked out because he tried to avoid the idiot that's walking right into the way his car was traveling. And it swung the other way when it encountered resistance, which is the idiot's body.

Anyone with little analytic skills can see that, but leave it up to the idiotic mind hive...

Bullshit.

He went for him.

Well said.

People love to hate on Stewart, and NASCAR in general. Armchair experts will watch the video and condemn Stewart as a murderer regardless of what the investigation concludes.
