I often have bad Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) and (1) can't get to sleep, (2) wake up from sleep, or (3) wake my wife up from sleep (hah). I haven't been able to find a cure until I was recommended Tonic Water. Tonic Water kind of tastes like Sprite going down (super fizzy, you'll burp like mad after every sip), but the aftertaste tastes EXACTLY like you just puked. No joke, tastes like you just barfed - same aftertaste. However...I choked down a full cup of the stuff and my RLS more or less disappeared...the bouncing in my legs is nearly gone! I put off trying it for a long time because Tonic Water is nasty, but hey, if you want the results, you gotta do the deed...just chug it (I couldn't, made me burp to much, but if you drink it fast and get it over with, that's the best approach imo). It's recommended to mix it with a fruit drink or a syrup like Lingonberry juice from Ikea, but sugar keeps me up at night so I just tried it straight.

Cliffs:
1. Got RLS?
2. Drink Tonic Water (nasty) [diet tonic water = 0g sugar, won't keep you up]
3. No more RLS

quinine..

doesn't taste like vomit... tastes like bitter.

edit: about the sugar bit... a can of tonic has as much sugar as a can of coke. They add the sugar to try and kill the bitterness, but it doesn't quite cut it.

Wow, I've been having this problem recently. Due to the heat, I've been running at night and having problems sleeping.

I did just do a little research and though it helps, there are some risks - http://www.peoplespharmacy.com...t_not_without_risk.asp

Yikes...luckily it says that reaction is rare! I know plenty of people who use tonic water for RLS, I've just never had the inclination to try it until now!

I checked my bottle...it was store-brand and it was Diet Tonic Water = 0g of Sugar :) That explains the barf taste I guess

I was on Requip for my RLS for a while but I stopped taking it because it made me incredibly tired and on the nights that I missed my dose or didn't take it at the right time I was guaranteed to get RLS. I'd rather deal with RLS a few times a month than deal with Requip.

RLS is a fake neurological disorder where people claim they can't control their legs jumping all over the place. The real problems are lack of proper sleep, diet, and exercise. It generally only afflicts fat people.

Carboxylic acid also contributes to the taste.

Let me guess, you don't run at all? Have any proof or just going to talk out of your ass?

You forgot to add folks that train hard. I have RLS right now and wish I had some tonic water.

Yeah. I bike and run late in the day due to the HOT HOT Texas summer heat. My legs shake like crazy at night, sleeping can be a challenge.

No, RLS isn't stupid. Neither is ADHD. The stupidity gets involved when 30 million Americans see the advertisements for drugs designed to treat these diseases, decide "I have that," and the force their doctors to give them the medication to treat it.

so, chemical imbalances are fake, eh? Because that's what ADD/ADHD is.
Now, just because a chemical imbalance exists, doesn't mean it can't be controlled without medication. Proper diagnosis and careful planning are necessary to conquer ADD. And when you're as stubborn as I am, it's a bitch beating it without professional help and medication. Decades ago, the disorder existed but wasn't treated or even known about... and why is that? Because kids were beat in schools and thus the fear of pain forced the brain to work properly. Makes sense considering norepinephrine is involved in both: the feeling of fear produces it, and the brain is lacking the right amount of it, dopamine, and serotonin... which creates the disorder.

Don't know much about RLS though. I have twitchy legs, and in general twitch all over and generally can't keep my body perfectly still... but I don't think I have RLS. I don't really experience that burning/itching sensation in the legs.

Let me guess, never had RLS so you have no idea what you are talking about.

I'm gonna jump on the BS bandwagon people fucking move cause they're uncomfortable not because they have a disorder. I run, jog, and sprint at least 25 miles a week often near bed time due to my work schedule, and I have no gonorrhea sensation to move my legs or limbs when I lay down.
