Tom's review is up...( X2)

Maybe true, but from what I have quickly scanned they seem to have done a fair job and the conclusion seems upbeat , which is a first since the old T-bird days!

Hmm i might be wrong on this account, the review does not see to be that bad, i mean its not an Intel Fanboing review.. its actually quite equal ish ..

Hah check this Link .. Prime 95 takes up 50% of CPU speed in task manager (its only testing one core) ...

what are we going to do now when trying to test fora stable OC on the X2's ... ofcourse i never thought of that (of course the app is single thresded) .. maybe prime might release a dual core multi threaded solution .. who knows

You can run two instances and divide up the tasks, having one core do one thing and the other another thing.

This review must been painful for Tommy Boy.

Here's the bottom line. If we had to recommend a single core processor, the choice would depend greatly on the type of applications in use. But in the dual core arena, though, there is not much that speaks for Intel: go with the Athlon 64 X2.

Best thing i've ever seen said at Tom's 😀

I like to see what the power needs are for comparable systems....

dual core AMD or INtel
SLI mobo with 2x 6800 ultras or comparable ATI model
2-3 HDDS
2 optical drives
3-4 case fans (probably more for INtel system)

OC as far as one could go on air

I think a 430-480 could do this on an AMD system but does anyone think anything short of 500 watt quality will do it for the INtel setup???

i am pleased to see such a seemingly fair/unbiased/well conducted CPU test concerning AMD's at THG again 😀
i think i might start visiting there more often again 😉

Old Intel Slogan: Intel Inside

Prescott Slogan: Thermonuclear Reactor Inside

Intel's Dual Core Slogan: Two Thermonukes in the space of 1 inside!

I didn't read the review, but just looking at the power spec, it appears maybe toms is off intel's "bought reviews" list. I'll give the review a look when I get the chance.

edit: or more likely, now both companies are buying him off. I skimmed the conclusion and didnt see any mention of the current cost (which is way too high) for dual core upgrade. Now this might be because they still aren't really available, but that doesn't justify no mention of cost in such a thorough review.

It has been, indeed, a long time since I last read a good review @ THG; most of them where quite biased, though I must accept that their "How To" guides come in quite useful. But anyways, cheers for AMD; they are numero uno in everything.
