That 40% is on like one benchmark, and thats against the 3960x, NOT the 3990x.
My point was that there are many use cases for which Intel beats AMD (though the majority, AMD wins clearly). To blindly pick AMD because it wins the geometric mean (either desktop, HEDT, or server) would be foolish without first confirming that it is better for your use case.

Even comparing server chips, here you can see where Pybench and PHPbench run better on Xeon than Epyc, it's not so cut and dry. Even the best Swiss Army knife doesn't matter if you're trying to paint.
