We forgive you Tom; glory to the Lord, who has saved you.

Yeah, but why they always seem to forget, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" part?

Why is it that anything that has to do with republicans or conservatives has a direct link to religion for you people?

Um, might have to do with your side's penchant to desperately pander to the religious nuts above everyone else.

Nah, that couldn't be it...

I guess people don't much like having their hypocisy pointed out to them, huh? Funny that you don't mind pointing it out in Obama though.

Better take your tinfoil off, because if you weren't such a politcal hack you'd realize that Obama wasn't leading the charge against Clinton in the Monica Lewinsky affair like Newt and Delay were.

Don'rt do as we do, do as we say. What a couple of PHONIES!!

OK, since your reading comprehension seems to be challanged today, who said "Let he without sion cast the first stone"?

Oh, as I recall there is something in the 10 commandments about not coveting your neighbors wife?

To me though, it's about their hypocrisy, not about religion. i don't claim to be holier then the next guy, they do.

If its not about religion, then why bring religion into it? If you want to call them hypocrites then fine, call them hypocrites, but what is the point of trying to offend every religious person with your comments? Obviously you feel like you are better than them, your "holier than thou" attitude is quite obvious.

Maybe you should take the stick out of your a$$ before you get out of bed if you can't find the humor in a freaking joke.

I wasn't pointing out any hypocrisy. What I pointed out was that Gingrich et al are using the same risk aversion tactics that Obama is. There's a big difference. What's more, I wasn't making any moral judgement on any of them. And this is why I don't understand the need to drag religion through the mud again as though there are no liberals who go to church.

You want to compare Political Correctness with torture and WMDs?
You want to compare flag burning(which is what Dems defended) with grave abuses(looong list here) of the patriot act?
Texas(rampantly run by Repugs) just passed a law defining marriage between a man & a woman.

you and everyone here are losing your rights as FREE citizens of what used to be a FREE country, whether political correctness, flag burning, or gay marriage matters to you or not - you NO LONGER HAVE THE CHOICE.

get real.

I suppose the fact that these same guys sought out the religious right, were lauded by the religious right, and claimed to be kin with the religious right might just have something to do with the discussion being in part about religion.

Yeah, because Dems never speak at churches and don't give a hoot about people of faith.

Dems want that vote AND pander to religious leaders just as much as Reps do. But for some reason, anything that has the word conservative attached to it has to automatically be associated with religion. It's a stereotype.

This is what happens when you associate yourself too closely with others you probably shouldn't have. You are right in that all Politicians/political Parties seek out Religious Votes, but no one has (in the US) ever gone as far as the recent Republicans have. They have been quite open and quite proud of their association almost pandering to that voting block everytime a camera was pointed in their direction. Hell, Bush was practically re-elected on Religious issues alone(Gay Marriage) and don't forget the hoopla surrounding Terry Schiavo. Have you ever seen such lengths taken to pander to any group?

This whole affair has been so distasteful that now the previously eager Religious Right is rethinking their whole motivation into getting involved in the first place. Sorry, the Republicans made their bed, now they got to lie(no pun intended) in it.

What makes you think religion can't be questioned/examined/critized?? It isn't any different then any other political power?

It is when it's relevant. But to arbitrarily drag it into every thread about conservatives, gays, whatever... it just gets old. And most of the time it's dragged into the conversation more as a vehicle to bash people of faith than anything else.

If we're not discussing the church's stand on the issue at hand I don't see the reason to bring it up. You don't have to be part of a church to point out the moral failings of a public figure. Nor does their religious past have any bearing on their actions being any more right or wrong than they are at face value.

Yeah, I saw that asshole on MTP as well. He and Perle got taken to the cleaners by the Admiral (Congressman) and the anti-war guy. Their talking points were elegant and optimistic while Perle and Delay kept trying to instill fear in Americans.

Its a pointless and ignorant thread, using the actions of one man to discredit all conservatives and everyone that is religious. Its the equivalent of saying that all liberals and all Democrats are lying, rapist, alcoholic, hypocrite murderers because of the Kennedys.

Kind of like cutting down all Ds for the actions of a few anti-war zealots who burn the flag.

BTW - why aren't you condemning Delay's actions?

Maybe he has sinned as well.

yet another example hypocrisy coming from the right - the "Family Values" party - barf.

In his new book, he writes
"I drank too much, I slept with women I wasn't married to. I neglected my family. This is the truth, and I recount it with a deep sense of grief that I ever lived in such a manner.

I really, really don't get it.

What you fail "to get", as so many others, is that there are no self-proclaimed perfect people claiming to be Christians. No need to be a Christian if you are (or think you are) perfect. The mere proclamation that one is a Christian is a proclaimation of imperfection, of sinful nature. So, don't look for any change - Christians who don't sin or do immoral things - they've already warned you even though you didn't understand sufficiently to recognize it as such. ;)

Yes indeed "curious" given soo many "quality posts"

And he has the nerve to call Clinton "Slimey". I guess it takes one to know one

He's just reaching out to his base of crooks, liars, and other criminals.

In other words, most of today's Republican party...

Yet another reason why the Religious Right is so VERY wrong.

The Republican party is a magnet for maggots

[sarcasm]They do beg serious debate, don't they?[/sarcasm] :disgust:

BTW: Pardon me answering out of turn, and on the hardcore R's behalf

As you and your fellow ilk try and rip only Dems for owning large mansions and flying personal jets.

You guys are a trip :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Where did I cut down all the Ds for the actions of a few anti-war zealots who burn the flag? I also called them nutjobs, the only way that you could take that as me "cutting down all Ds" is if I thought that all Democrats are nutjobs, which I don't. If you can read, I even said in that thread -

"I condemn this kind of crap from both sides, I put these morons right up there with those on the right that will call anyone that is against the war a traitor"

I know that they are on the extreme and not at all representitive of all anti war protestors...

Anyways, I can see that reading comprehension isn't your strong point, so I'll try to disect my post that you quoted so that you can understand it. When I said "Its the equivalent of saying that all liberals and all Democrats are lying, rapist, alcoholic, hypocrite murderers because of the Kennedys" I was basically equating Delay to the Kennedys, which is obviously condemning his actions. Delay is an idiot, there, is that easier for you to understand?

A breath of idiocy as usual.

When the most powerful republican in congress for years is revealed to have a scandal utterly proving his hypocrisy on his core base issues of 'family values', it's "pointless".

Ignorant thread? How is the thread ignorant? It's reporting the facts. Apparently JD50 is ignorant about the word.

Then he of course screws up the logic, which was not only the issue with DeLay but the pattern, as he claims it's 'only one person'. Only one a day, maybe.

Then he equates a family with its flaws who has provided the greatest president in the last 50 years IMO, another great leader who may have been an even greater president, and one of the greatest Senators in decades, a family whose sacrifices for the country include a son who also had a chance to become president, who volunteered for a second and third tour in WWII who was killed in action fighting the Nazis, and two who were assassinated, one who was almost assassinated, and he posts that garbage, all to make a false point.

Alchoholic? Check George. Killer? Check Laura's driving. Hypocrite? You are kidding? For just one example, speaking out for the Viet Nam war while unethically avoiding going (abusing the powe of his war-supporting father). Compare that to the Kennedys who had both sons who could serve in WWII, both war heroes, one killed and one nearly killed, while one of the wealthiest families in America, JFK using his father's connections to get *into* the war because of his medical problems restricting him.

Now compare the huge benefits of Kennedy era policies to the great harms of the Bush era.

Kennedy: movements towards peace, wars avoided, economy improved, poverty reduced, new programs helping the ill introduced, racism attacked and beaten, a nuclear test ban treaty, improvements in the US foreign policy towards former colonies be ending endorsement of European brutal colonization, improvements to the military, creation of useful agencies (was the FDA created under him?), a far smaller government than any republican later, the US image in the world outstanding, on and on.

Bush: you know. More poverty, more concentration of the nation's wealth, the imperial presidency, incompetent governing from Iraq to Katrina, the US image at a 100-year low?

Debt, greatly increased spending and corruption, the war on scientists, the selling out of the public interest to the corporations, funneling funds and power to the religious right...

What does he have? A Kennedy cousin committed a rape. What a joke for him to say that has any relevance to the political discussion.
