ohh if it goes to court goodell may win anyway. not because he will actually win but because it may take up to 2 years to figure it out.

Checking back in, looks like things are going as planned. Goodell/NFL always win. Keep me updated, especially more whining from Pats fans.

Judge is asking some pretty pointed questions at the NFL.

sure is. but it don't matter. brady can't agree to the terms that goodell wants.

all goodell has to do is fight. the judge said it could take 2 years to get through it. so he wins no matter what.

Unless they put off the suspension 2 years.

hmm

Judge or an appeals court can easily grant a injunction and put the suspension off especially given the pointed questions he asked today.

if the judge does not put it off no way can an appeals court get to it in time that brady does not miss a few games. then at that point it does not matter.

I believe it's a bench trial and he agreed to rule in September.

One word: Injunction.

Courts generally don't tend to fuck with the ability to earn if a case could go a way that clears the employee completely. In other words it'd be terribly justice to have him punished then rule he should not be punished.

It's not a matter of money, you can't "refund" 4 games. The pay, sure, but you can't refund the difference if Brady was playing the games to the fans/team/his career/etc. Could cost them a SB, or not. You'd never know after the fact.

If I read correctly, the judge asked them to give it another go at resolving themselves before the season. Reading between the lines, it sounds like "if you can't solve this before the start of the year and make me get involved I'll issue an injunction so I have time."

This. I would make no sense for an injunction to allow Brady to compete and suspend his punishment until resolved. He can be suspended, if that happens to be the case. He can't be "unsuspended" if he already served his time.

Hopefully Vegas starts doing prop bets:

What will be the psi at kick off?
What will be the psi at half?
Which gauge will be used at kick off?
Which gauge will be used at half?
How many balls will be underinflated at half?
How many balls will be overinflated at half?

Etc.

i didn't even think of that...

we need to add that to football pools! fuck yeah!

instead of a fantasy football league we need a fantasy PSI football league!

I really hope we have access to the numbers post game. It's going to be a complete gaffe.

lol i wonder if the NFL will make this secret. though i am willing to bet that they get leaked.

You know damn well the NFL won't let these numbers be public. I bet they don't even measure the balls. This is just a stupid show to pretend to care about the integrity of the game.

Correct. We all know except the NFL that the psi of footballs will go outside of the 12.5 -13.5 psi range during a game due to playing temps. Providing those measures would only prove them wrong.

Exactly. I'm putting it on the media to do this; test the balls before a game then during a cold weather game esp. in Foxborough. But giving ESPN is in bed with the NFL, that may not happen either.

The NFL stated that they will be testing them before the game, halftime and end of game with certified gauges.

then again what they say they will do and what they actually do...

oops its going to be "random" so..no change at all lol

Re-check your check, the Judge pretty much hammered the NFL today, when Nash (NFL's head counsel) was asked by Berman about specific evidence about the AFCCG Nash replied, "well no, not about that game in particular" to which Berman replied "Wow, that's the only game we're talking about". Also he noted that Brady's stats were better in the second half vs the 1st and replied "doesn't seem he had any advantage at all". He also harped on the supposed "independent" investigation by Wells when one of Well's lawyers was grilling Brady during his appeal. As a Pat fan I didn't wine about the investigation (although it's a farce) I just thought a 4-game suspension was way out of line over 1/2lb of missing PSI (if that). The union makes a valid point in bringing up the Minnesota case of them warming balls and it drew a simple warning from the league, nothing else. I find that the Vikings QB had to be "generally aware" that he was handling a toasty-warm ball when it was 8 degrees that day.

Judge Berman's goal is to have both sides settle. He doesn't want to rule on this case. But I don't know if Brady has the temperament to compromise. He's been a winner take all kind of player, and never gives up. While I'm sure the millions lost in a four game suspension is important for Brady, he is at least as concerned about his legacy.

Goodell has a history of being very sensitive to public opinion, and will even contradict himself when it is to his political advantage. Think of the Ray Rice suspension. But Goodell may now see himself in survivor mode, as he had a deal with Kraft. Kraft, who is probably the most influential owner in the NFL, believes Goodell double crossed him with the 4 game suspension and lack of an independent appeal process for Tom Brady. So the judge is either going to have to be very good at twisting arms, or come up with an incredible compromise, where both sides don't lose face.

Speaking on NFL Network, Director of the Tulane Law Sports Program and NFL Media legal analyst Gabe Feldman, who was in attendance, noted that the judge hit on the settlement pressure points.

"I think that it was a big part of the purpose of this morning was for the judge to poke holes in both sides," Feldman said. "To say, I have some serious questions about both of your cases and I could rule against each of you based on the questions I have. So rather than risk losing it all, rather than risk a worst-case scenario, why not move a little bit in toward something of a settlement rather than face my decision."

That article reads like it was written by Baghdad Bob.

Pay no mind to the fact that the Berman pokes way more holes in the our case and he asked us questions for 45 minutes, he still questioned Brady for 25 minutes!

While I don't disagree he's trying to force a settlement, we all know that Goodell literally can't and won't at this point. And Brady won't because he's looking at this going why settle when there is no hard evidence proving he did anything wrong.
