This is going to have walmart scan for guns on the way in now.

Place called Bass Pro Shop, of course many gun owners shop here but you have to check your gun in at the entrance.

Remember folks you or a loved one is 100 times more likely to be killed by your gun then they are from some criminals gun.

A demonstration of how easy it is to be 1: irresponsible, 2: pull a trigger.

When I think of how smart people are... and combine that with those facts, it does beg the question of what action should be done to avert such easy tragedies.

More fodder for the gun control idiots to jump on. Don't blame the gun, blame the way the mother left it with the child, where the child could get it out.

This story is just one more data point proving that guns are the answer to our self-defeinse prayers.

Indeed. Just another tragic loss for a "Right" with a different intent than it originally had and one seemed defined as providing Gun Manufacturers with a lucrative Market.

they check, as far as i know, long guns and open carry mainly as a way to control loss prevention. they dont frisk you or wand you upon entering.

You mean Bass Pro. Yes they don't wand or touch you. Guess you are right they don't want the open carry

I wish there was a way the kid's memory could be wiped of this incident and he could grow up never hearing about it. This is so fucking sad.

You're right kids are going to find out and tease him in elementary school.

"Haha you shot your own mom when you were 2 years old!"

You'd have to be a real dick to go that far...

But considering our cyber intertwined culture, I wouldn't be surprised.

And we shouldn't have cars because someone could die in an accident.

Cars are responsible for daily benefits for everyone who drives or is driven. And the very existence of automobiles probably saves far more lives every year than are lost in accidents. So the balance of the scale of benefit versus loss for cars is way, way, way in favor of "benefit."

The balance of benefit versus loss for private gun ownership is much, much more in doubt.

Absolutely false. There are around 600 accidental deaths from firearms a year while murders are well over 10,000 per year.

That's fine. Nobody is making you own a firearm, but don't don't tell me I can't own one.

The benefit is to avoid being like this:

Mothers that keep an automatic pistol in their purse with one in the chamber and safety off.
..In a publc area, even.
That's just bad policy ..x2.

Quite. Sadly such incidents are very common. Read NYT "The HiddenToll", 29 Sept. 2013

"Two-year-olds, tool-up! You have nothing to lose but your reins".
(Karl Marx, 1848)

That heart-warming muffled pop of mummy's gun going off in her purse. The very essence of the sound of FREEDOM.

It's better than being lined up,shot and bulldozed into a mass grave.Yes it is.

If you're in New York, you don't have as much freedom as 96% of the rest of the country;and are probably fearful of interacting with the police.
