Today is PocketPC2002 today. New models announced today.

So far, so boring. Theyre all basically the same. And all overpriced.

4 Models with 206mhz strongarms, reflective screens (can we say DUST?), and d-pads in the middle. A few have dual expansion, most have sleeves, a little bluetooth here, a little usb host there, but altogether nothing spectacular.

I was hoping the e-200 would at least have the old button layout, if not the old dust-free screen. Now its just homogenized with the rest.

At least the jornada still has a cover. I guess if I had to choose, I'd go jornada.

1) They all are using the ARM chip now. Standardization rocks for PocketPCs. No more chooing MIPS, SH3, ARM
2) For the features they have, of course the price is gonna be high. The iPAQ debuted at $499. These devices have more capibilites, 64MB memory, dual CF slots, all have flash ROM, a new OS, and longer lasting batteries. The 64MB Toshiba Genio with dual slots is $549. Stop complaining about price!!🙂 They will most likely come down (HP is offering a $50 rebate and another $50 to owners of the 548 and 525).

Does sony make a Pocket PC? Or are they pissed because they may have to have it use CF instead of their overpriced memory cards.

Sony only makes those pansy-ass Clies 😉

I agree perfectly with that. Just stressing the point that theyre all alike though.

The problem is, its only incremental upgrades over the old PPCs. The fact of the matter is is that none of these are anything new, aside from the bluetooth and usb master. Maybe you can throw in the dual slots as well, but I'm not too impressed with that, and I dont doubt they couldnt have done that from day 1 if so inclined. Everything else could have been done from day 1 of pocket pc.

After almost 2 years, you would think that pocket PCs with hardware quite similar to the originals would be at the same or lower price as they were two years ago. But nope, theyre higher. Hardware prices should go down, not up. The Geforce 1 came out at around that time, and now its worth almost nothing. An extreme example, but fits the bill nonetheless. I dont know many people willing to spend $600 for a pda. Hopefully they leave the older PPCs on the market. These PPCs are like GF2 GTS's, nothing special, just a small boost.

And I'd like to personally bash HP over the head for not giving 545 users the $50 rebate as well.

And casio shot themselves in the foot with the e-200. The ipaq is a bit dissapointing as well.

Theyre good and all, but instead of moving ahead, theyre just correcting past mistakes. I guess thats better than going nowhere like palm.

I guess the good thing is that since theyre so alike, theyll practically be forced to compete on price alone.

pansy ass clie runs at a higher resolution than that brick you call a handheld

iPAQs can run at 240x320, 320x240, 640x480, and 480x640 with Jimmy Landscape. Get your fact straights 😀

And the iPAQ (PocketPC) has been out for about a year and 4 months, not 2 years. You can't bring a new chip/platform to the market if Intel doesn't have X-Scale ready yet.

hmmm... beast buy is wrong, then. wouldn't be the first time 😉

hows this jimmy landscape thing work?

anyhow, its still a brick in comparison to the clie or vx

hmmm... interesting... though its not upping the native resolution of the lcd 😛

edit: whoa! games! looks like how my gba should!

Yeah, and adding MP3 and video to that hackjob of a PalmOS with the Clie is no good either 😀 The process of getting/playing music on the Clie is a pain in the ass as well.

<< looks good, now which one has a USB host?

Also, that black thing on the 3800 series on top does not look good.
>>

I think that the 3800 series looks hideous. It has lost all of the elegance of the 3600/3700 series.

Holy crapola!! Look at all the cool new stuff for the iPAQ 😉
