Today, I start my battle with Accutane

Finally got the prescription filled. I stared at the box for an hour before I ripped one open. I plan on keeping a detail journal describing all the side effects. As of now, my heart is beating a million miles per hour...the first side effect shows itself.
 
I took it...I was just really dry for the few months I was on it. No permanent side effects either.

Edit: As for if it was worth it? 1000 times yes!
 
I finished taking that over a year ago. Acne is much much more controlled. I had no serious side effects. Don't worry, you'll be fine
 
Please drink lots of water with this, use sunscreen everyday EVERYDAY always keep chapstick with you as your lips will get dry and be careful in regards to the way the rest of your body feels.
It is a miracle acne drug, with great outcomes if used correctly.

I used it years ago and it did the trick. Side affects were the afore mentioned extremely dry skin and an overall reddening. The dryness was painful at times but, no worse than the pain of acne. In my case, the acne never totally disappeared but, improved about 90%. I think the treatment was worth it.

Have you tried one of those acne treatment clinics. My wife swears it cleared her's up. One of those ones that uses the little loop thing to clear your pores?
 
Good luck, my friend. I've been there, and it sucks.

Made my skin way dry, and improved my acne by about 75% for 2 years or so, but otherwise no side effects at all. It's just now starting to get a little worse than it's been since I started taking it.

I'm on that right now (minocycline) along with Duac and Tretanoin topicals. It was expensive as hell, but has been very effective. Good luck op!
 
<sigh> I think I'm going to see a dermatologist soon - I'm 24 and my job puts my looks on center stage and my acne isn't bad, it's just so inconsistent no matter how consistent my routine.

ah heck.

to be absolutely honest, I decided to go with the acuttane due to appearances at work as well.

Dude...acne, no matter how small or large, is bad news...go get that stuff cleared up now!
 
WTF?

Accutane was a MIRACLE drug. No side effects for me except dry lips. To see my acne go from absolutely horrid to perfectly clear in 3 months was one of the best things to happen to me in my life.

All the hype about it is meant to scare you I think. Yeah you have to sign all these papers and get your blood tested every month and your doctor will ask you if you had suicidal thoughts or what not, but none of that sh*t ever even came close to happening with me. It's such a miracle drug though...
 
I used to get flaky arms in the dry midwest winter for a couple years after I went off it, but that was it. It 100% cleared up cystic acne for me on my face and back, which physically and psychologically was fantastic.
 
Yeah, I went through all the drugs and creams and whatnot before finally being shown accutane. It was a last resort thing. It took a while for the dry lips to kick in, but it did. I had lots of chapstick.. hahaha... and to this day, my skin seems dryer in the winter than it did before accutane. But that might be all in my head or just coincidence.

monthly blood tests were oh so fun... not. Towards the end a new assistant was hired at the doc's office... she could not take blood for the life of me.. heh.. tried 3x in one arm and failed, and the doc had to shoot for the other arm.

I wasn't SEVERE like some cases I've seen, but it was consistent. I still get acne every so often though, but haven't found anything still OTC that really helps with it when it does pop up.

Oh, I used this about 6-7 yrs ago... for a year.... before the generic stuff (my sister got the generic stuff). That stuff was like $4-500 a month if we didn't have insurance.... OUCH.
 
I took Accutane when I was in high school a long time ago.. lol

As I recall... it dried my skin out etc... but it worked wonders for my acne... and I don't remember there being any side effects.
