Three years ago a Skunk burrowed it's way down into our basement. We called Animal Control and you know what they did? They trapped it, by forcing it outside into the cage. Beat it while in the cage with a shovel handle until it stopped moving, dumped it out of the cage, gave it a few more whacks with the shovel head, and then used that same shovel to scoop it into back of the pickup.

The OP'S method problably saved the skunk some grief!

Edit: We gave him a bunch of sleeping pills with some cat food. He got pretty drowsy so I opened up the cage. He stumbled out and started walking around. He found the pool and decided to go for a swim. Jumped in, swam around a bit, and then drowned.
