Today I added up all the tax I pay

I wouldn't mind paying an extra $2500/mo for getting healthcare taxed just to punish low/middle income. Americans deserve to get kicked in the face for embracing socialist ideals. Give them what they want.

??? not everything "socialist" is bad. I'm not a huge fan because so much socialism infringes on personal liberty, but there are things we should socialize and take care of. I personally think healthcare should be socialized, but it would be impossible to retain any part of our current educational and healthcare systems and implement it into socialized system.

Our current education system IS socialist!

Fern:

1. Throckmorton referred to "the 47% that conservatives claim pay no taxes"
2. You said it might be a 'verifiable fact.'
3. Your reference proves something else.
4. You lose.

The claim that 47% of people don't pay taxes is wrong. You said, quote "I'm pretty sure it's a verifiable fact." Thanks for verifying SOMETHING ELSE. You win today's "FOX NEWS CHAMPION AWARD."

Reality check here. How many of those 47% pay social security, medicare, sales tax, gasoline tax, payroll taxes, property tax, or any combination of these taxes...

Need I go on?

I took it he wasn't playing the game as you are. We've had this discussion on this board many times. Everyone knows people pay sales tax and the like.

Moreover, I took his specifying the exact number of "47%" as a clear reference to the report that says 47% don't pay federal income tax. I then gave him a non-rightwing source (NYT) that verifies it.

Republicans always say "47% pay no tax!", which isn't true. They don't say "47% pay no federal income tax but to be fair they pay federal payroll, state, local, sales, and car registration taxes"

For itemized deductions of sales tax, the Feds provide a set of tables per state per income. To that one can add high ticket items. People in income tax states have the option of either sales or income tax. Same option is available to non state income tax states. For this in state income tax, the income is usually a better option.

Federal income: $3,014
Social Security and Medicare: $1,943
State income: $1,883

Total: $6,840
Salary: $36,516

That's not even counting the 4% excise tax we have in Hawaii.

So how do I get to be one of the 47% that conservatives claim pay no taxes? I think I heard it has to do with having children out of wedlock and being a deadbeat. Whatever it is, I need to figure it out because then I'd have zero debt and some nice savings!

throck, this question is directed towards you.
would you rather have Fair Tax in place instead?

also, what's your monthly rent in hawaii?
just curious cuz i thought it was expensive there but you're surviving on under $40k a year.

BTW I'm not jealous of js80. But I'm annoyed that people at his income level complain about how much they pay in taxes and act like poor people don't pay.

I am jealous, though, of the people who don't do anything but shuffle money around and make millions.

i don't think that's an argument of many.

most of the people who are rich (not the filthy rich, just relatively rich ~$250), are upset that they are constantly targeted and demanded to pay more taxes.

47% pay ZERO federal income taxes. ZERO. Of the ones that pay ZERO, most actually get CREDITS/MONEY from federal government withough paying any federal income tax.

I wouldn't rather have a fair tax, because that would probably shift an even greater burden onto me. Even if I ended up paying less, it would decimate the poor.

My rent is $850. I'm not surviving here. If I didn't have any medical expenses or car repairs, and if we weren't furloughed for most of the year, I would have just broken even. But I've put about $2500 on credit cards just to get by. That's not counting the $700 tax I still owe.

You can actually find out for yourself if your taxes would go up or down. They have a calculator which will tell you.

For me:

With the Fair Tax, you get:
19.98% MORE spendable income.
$9,481.02 MORE purchasing power.
$10,140.21 LESS federal taxes.

Imagine just how much of a kickstart the economy will get when I have almost $10k per year of extra spending money?

Note, this was computed with the default setting of a 23% tax on purchased items.

The reason the Fair Tax actually makes more money for the government is that illegal income is still taxed when it is spend. The drug dealer pays his fair shair.

Corporate welfare has to come from somewhere. Everyone knows the little guy has lots of extra cash!

See? I can do it too!

You get a deduction for your mortgage interest paid. If you're paying 15,000 in interest each year (equates to a mortgage of about 350,000), that's a federal tax savings of about $3750 each year (assuming your marginal tax rate is 25%)..

The health care premiums paid by your employer aren't taxable. For a couple without children, your employer is probably shelling out at least $10,000 in premiums. So you're saving another $2500 in taxes.

And YOUR contribution to health care premiums is paid with pre-tax dollars. That's probably about $2000 for a couple, so you're saving yet another $500.

All told, that's about $6750 in federal tax savings due to loopholes. And I haven't yet counted the amount you save on your state income tax because of these loopholes, which would put you at well over $7,000 saved because of these loopholes.

Any further questions, 'Tard?

shit. if you own a home and have a decent job you get those also neither are loopholes.

not sure you should be calling him a tard if this is your answer to him.

I like how even though my taxes go up, the wording says "LESS" taxes and "MORE" purchasing power. NO THANKS. I pay enough taxes already.

See? I can do it too!

Corporate "welfare" was authorized by the government.
Those funds just do not sit around under some CEO's desk.

That's not the talking point. The talking point is "47% don't pay tax".
This is the statement that the left wants to be heard as the talking point.

This way they can try to argue.

If the actual statement with the words Federal Income is properly inserted, the left can not stand on any argument.

Therefore; they hear what they desire and then attempt for 200+ posts to argue that point.

I believe that the original point of this thread was you complaining about the taxes you pay and the fact that you do not understand your tax bill and/or filing paperwork.
