I actually liked Avatar in 3d and thought it was decent with Toy Story 3. Otherwise, I don't like the current state of 3d.

I will try my best to see Hobbit in 3d and 48 fps just so I can see how Jackson intended it to look. Then, I can crap on the format as I see fit. That said, I expect the movie (and Freeman and Armitage and McKellan) to be excellent.

I really don't care to see this movie, period.

But I am *almost* curious enough to go see it in 3D 48FPS, just to see how that all shapes up.
Especially since source footage is 5K on RED EPICs in a 3D dual-rig.

If only the movie shoehorning this approach into theaters was of a different type. Never been a big LotR fan.

I've watched a lot of 3D movies and without exception they all sucked unless they were animated. Avatar was ok for 3D but the movie was too long and it got annoying after a while. Also, if you watched it in 2D it simply was more vibrant and enjoyable. Unfortionately with the live action 3D the colors get blurred and washed out.

Stick to animated 3D movies or don't watch them at all. I'm done with the whole 3D thing. It's a gimmick as far as I'm concerned. They'll tout 48 fps and then when that sucks they'll tout some other gimmick.

IS the 2D at 48fps? or is it just the 3D?

There would be no point in having 2D 48FPS as it wouldnt look any different, just super smooth and strange, 3D 48FPS however will be 24FPS per eye, and will greatly reduce eyestrain and flickering.
