Florence is a must. The Uffizi / Ponte Vecchio / Domo /Academy are the places you need to visit. Buy the museum tickets in advance, otherwise you might spend hours in line. Try the gelato, great stuff. There's a small restaurant near the Domo Plaza called cinghiale bianco, they serve boar spaghetti, which is really good. We stayed in a small countryside called Lamole, great local chianti wines and olive oil. Siena is also a good day trip.

Rome is also good, but gives you a more city-like fand touristy feel. The Basilica/ Colosseum are the main attractions there. Also worth a visit. Have fun and always be aware of your surroundings.

Excellent advice. I would skip Venice from what I've heard, but I've never been there.

Florence is my favorite city in the world.

Well were staying 3 days in Florence... The problem is after Florence, we can either go to Rome or Venice.

How many days do you have? Rome would definately warrant a week by itself from what I've heard.

Its gonna be 3 days in either city.

I'd treat this as if it will be the only chance to get to visit Italy. In which case, I would stay in Rome after your 3 days in Florence. There's just so much to see and so much history there.

If between Rome and Venice, no doubt do Rome. It is just a much better city. In fact I thought Venice was sort of a cess pool. People should see Venice simply to see it, but there really isn't a whole lot to it and it's like the whole town is nothing but a tourist trap.

As others said there is just so much to see and do in Rome it would be better to go to, hands down.

Ugh, just be careful if you go to Rome. In a span of 3 days, people in Rome tried to rob us twice (both times fortunately unsuccessful.)

Exactly, Venice for a day and Rome for a week or more.

When is your trip? If it is in the summer/hot season, then skip Venice for Rome. Venice is nasty in the summer because of the stink of the trash in the canals. In the winter it is amazing.

I really depends on what you want out of the trip. Venice is much more romantic and unique because of the canals, gondolas, doges palace, etc. Rome has amazing historical sites and the Vatican museum is incredible. Rome is more of a metropolis though, and doesn't feel as "different" as Venice.

forza firenze!

seriously, rome has some cool history but otherwise is just a big city. venice is amazingly beautiful but so, so touristy and so, so overpriced. florence is beautiful, original, academic, cultural, fun and reasonable.

We'll be in Italy the first week in April, so it still should be pretty cool... This is for our Honeymoon btw....

Fiancee thinks Venice will be more romantic and relaxing, and while I don't disagree, Im worried 3 days there might be too long. Having just spend a little under a week in Switzerland and Florence, I personally think Rome would be a nice end to the trip, but Venice looks like a cool place to see...

I dunno...
