There's a dude in a wheel chair at my gym. It's fun to watch him workout. His upper body is gigantic.

heh im like the exact opposite. i STARTED working out in college, and have continued to do so since my graduation last may while working full time.

and i think me being out of the gym for 5 weeks, not by choice, is some of the MOST motivation I have had hehe.

Same here. I never worked out before high school. I rode my bike a lot, but that was it. Then in college I started running and working out, and now that I am sitting at a desk all day, I have no choice but to go work out. I couldn't handle sitting all day long then going home to sit some more.

a year is what you should do, you must be doing something wrong with your routines if you think that made you lose your gains.

Um, you misunderstood me. I've skipped 2-3 weeks this year, ie, 2-3 weeks out of the 8 weeks we've had so far. 😛 The program i was on calls for a week off every 8 weeks, so I do understand that time off is good.

I lost about 10-12lbs on business out of state last November flying out to a bunch of our remote offices. Was trying to gain back what I lost since the start of this new year but have missed too much, and during those 2-3 weeks, didn't really eat that well.

yea dude the worst part is i was probably at my peak in size/strength of my entire life. and the DAY i broke my ankle, was the day i was going to start my lean cycle and start cardio. so i'm at the gym that day and im like 'well i won't do cario here since i'm playing basketball later tonight which will be my cardio.'

and later that night, while playing ball, i broke my ankle 🙁

That sucks. I was probably the same spot last year before my inadvertent weight loss.

What do you do for cardio out of curiousity? You seemed to be pretty ripped in the pics you showed off last year. What about your diet as well?

I really enjoy working out, though I can see how I could fall back into the habit of never going to the gym and being less active. Right now I'm going 6 times a week, but it is starting to get tough to make that kind of schedule work.

Ryan
Damn, 6 times a week would burn most people out. The routine has to be simple enough to keep you motivated, but difficult enough to keep from slacking. I hit the gym 3 times a week (upper body twice, doing different muscle groups; lower body once). I was thinking of adding a fourth day for legs or cardio, but I'm not sure I can manage fitting another day without starting to hate it.

I used to lift 6 times a week until I hurt my arm, and like the OP, I can't wait till I can get back into the game.

i'm lazy 😉

I don't like working out in a gym. I'd much rather be riding my bike, playing v-ball, etc. I do swim at the health club when I go but that's because I don't have a pool.

But I haven't "worked out" in years.

I wouldn't consider what exercise I do a true workout, I just do toning and maintenence exercise.

How do I not workout? Very easily, I'm lazy, I work a lot and working out isn't fun. There was a time that I used to exercise everyday llike clockwork. Though when I left my govt job I lost the benefit of a free onsite fully stacked gym.

Yep. I usually go for about 4 months straight and then take a week or two off so those little nagging injuries that you can't work through can heal after which I feel even more invigorated and feel stronger.

I'm not the type who becomes invigorated after doing a lot of physical activity. I feel more that I wasted good time that I could've used doing something I enjoy instead of punishing myself with something I hate.

The trick with exercise is that you have to find something you enjoy. Something that doesn't feel like just exercising. For me, that's climbing, dancing, kayaking. It doesn't feel like exercise, so I can continue to do it, day after day. I don't have to convice myself to go, I have to convince myself NOT to go.

I never set foot in a gym. Lifting weights and running on treadmills just feels like work.

how the hell do you do it? i have been out of the gym for about 5 weeks now w/my broken ankle and i can't WAIT to go back! it is killing me not being able to work out 🙁. next wednesday I go in for xrays and the result SHOULD be that I can walk fine on my ankle. it feels much better now and I can stand and balance on my broken ankle.

i do a little workout at my house w/dumbells 2-3 times a week starting 2 weeks ago, but it isn't NEARLY the same as going to the gym and getting a REAL workout. there is only so much you can do with dumbells, especially since I only have one (but atleast it has adjustable weight.)

heh i just think its funny how some people struggle to get themselves to go to the gym and workout, but i'm just DYING to actually go back ...

1 MORE WEEK!!! (hopefully)

I agree.. You feel good as well..

But that's just me, normally go 5 days a week..

I just had my wisdom teeth out and 3 days off was killin me!!

😀

Haha, that's funny. Usually I hear the people who don't workout asking this about the ones who DO!

There was a period of a few years in my life (early teens) where I didn't do any real exercise, but I was still skinny and in pretty good shape just because that's how I am. Now, though, with running every day and running 70 miles a week, plus lifting a few times a week, I need it. I'm seriously addicted to endorphins 🙂 I always feel so much more energetic and alive after running.

i don't make time for it. i have too much stuff to do, work, family, church, etc, etc, etc

the only time i could do it would be early morning, which means going to bed earlier , which means doing less stuff at night before going to bed.

Cut out the Church BS, the results would be well worth it!

Never needed to. Low BP, low BMI, good heartrate. I eat whatever I want whenever I get hungry and I stop once I'm full regardless of whether or not there are leftovers.

I worked in restaurants for most of my life... bartending, manager, etc... great exercise... but now that I am in an office, I have gotten lazy and gained weight... I tried joining a gym, and hated it. Just not my thing. I am thinking of picking up a shift or two in a rest. or stocking shelves in a supermarket just to get the exercise I need.

🙂
