I just rolledback my sp2 install on tablet PC (Acer c102ti)

three services: keyboardsurrogate, tcserver, and tipsomethingortheother ate up my memory like crazy!

its too early to see what is going on, I would wait a couple of weeks to get the kinks ironed out.

You will only need SP2.

well, i did it and so far it seems ok. i like that sp2 includes ALL the previous windows updates, not just the critical stuff - no more patch and reboot 4 times in a row to get everything!

the one thing i'm not completely thrilled about is the security changes to internet explorer. it keeps blocking downloads and other annoying stuff. i'm too lazy to waste an hour testing the security settings to get it to stop doing this. can anybody give me a quick fix?

thanks,

joe

The virtual cd's will work post sp2 installation.
you just cant have them installed during the sp2 install, because (especially daemon tools) atapi.sys is replaced by the virtual cdrom program and sp2 will not install because of error saying cannot find atapi.sys.

just reinstall it after you finish your sp2 install and reboot.

I wouldn't. Since installing sp2 the quality of my computer has went down so much i am considering buying a new one. Constant freezes and very slow proformance.

I couldn't tell you if I noticed a difference or not, cuz I installed it onto a brand new computer. Pretty cool, that the ActiveX things are under control now.

thanks, i installed sp2 on a clean xp install BEFORE virtualcd and when i installed virtual cd everything worked great. so far i'm loving sp2, with the exception of the annoying high security on ie. still hoping someone can tell me how to crank this down to a more reasonable level ....

too late ... but it's working fine for me. in fact, things may even be a little faster! tho that may also have a lot to do with the fact that i reinstalled xp clean ... which i would recommend you do before blowing a lot of $ on new hardware. good luck!

and now that you mention it ... can somebody explain all this activeX stuff to me? i've never paid much attention to it but it seems that sp2 has blocked a lot of activex content, including some i actually want to see.

It killed my install, and I was forced to reinstall, even repairing it with windows setup wouldnt fix it.

I've installed SP2 on all 4 of my desktops. No problems :)

UT2k4 works fine here on 2 computers (other 2 have poor video cards and I've banned their gaming privileges).

SP2 has worked well for me at work (I am a programmer).
The popup blocker is better than google.

it's funny how many people don't read any of the posts in a topic, just read the subject and reply. i installed it last night, which i stated 14 posts ago. i guess that's how you get to be a lifer ... post first, read later!
