I'm with the camp that thinks he is an attention whore.
I know ppl who are really depressed and HAVE A REASON to kill themselves. People who have cancer or some horribly painful disease, people who lost their whole families from a drunk driver, people who lost both arms and legs, people who live in 3rd world countries starving and sufferring day in and day out.... this guy has NO EXCUSE to kill himself. He can leave this country anytime and quit playing a fvcking game that pays him millions to play not work.

The only way I'll change my mind is if a certified psychiatrist says he is a manic depressive and has been dealing with depression for years undiagnosed and needs long term treatment and medication. But if he is just dealing with a moment of depression or short term depression than he is weak and deserves no sympathy. The guy has a kid and killing himself is selfish and cowardly making him a quitter.

They don't like it quit and do something else. How hard is it really to quit and do something else with your life. You have the money to do lots of other things with your life. I would assume that it's a lot harder than that. If you've played football your whole life, and all you know is football, I would think it would be quite hard to just "stop" and move forward.

all i'm saying is that i find it humorous that people make these statements without knowing even slightly what it's like to be famous and in the public eye.

i'm not saying our hearts should be bleeding for TO or other athletes/celebrities, but is it that hard to try and imagine how difficult that life could be?

But there's a big difference - TO never has to worry or stress over if he'll be able to put food on the table for his family, or a roof over their heads. He could quit football, right now, never get paid another dime, and still be set with money for the rest of his life. Whatever stresses & worries & pressures athletes and celebraties deal with, there is absolutely no way they can be compared to what the rest of us deal with.



On a side note, I really have to think how different things might have been had TO not changed agents to Drew Rosenhaus...

@acemcmac- please study the psychology behind suicide and suicide attempts before being so judgemental. Millionaire or not, he can still be at risk and have an underlying mental condition that he was masking(wouldnt surprise me given his personality)

@frankgomez- Again he probably does have some sort of underlying mental illness, manic depressive or some such. Perhaps a personality disorder as well. I'm not a shrink but I'm studying it right now(just had a test on it this AM). And as a rule from what I've noticed at the psych units I'm visiting now for school, alot of the people in the unit are very successful in life. But something just switches off and they end up screwy. My patient yesterday was a school board administrator 4 months ago. Now she's catatonic schizophrenic. You just never know about people.

I think it's TO's cry for help to be honest. He has a lot of problems and maybe just maybe this is his way of reaching out to someone. Perhaps he just couldn't go the talk to someone route and needed this incident to bring him full circle. Maybe he will now get the help he needs and become a better person as well as a damn better player.

100% of that applies to you as well. you and i have absolutely no idea what they deal with. do you honestly think athletes just workout, play a game, and then go home and roll around in their money?

just off the top of my head.......do you worry about being mobbed in public places? do have to deal with the physical pain that NFL players deal with the day after games? do you worry about people coming at you for your money 24 hours a day? do you constantly worry about people around you don't give a damn about you, besides your money and fame?

it's scary to me how people think when you're rich you forgo the right to be unhappy.....

there is a slight difference.....an actor can quit or take a hiatus for a long time and resume their career. a pro athlete has a much smaller career window.

For "normal" people that attempt suicide, worry about being able to feed their family is almost never a factor. The severe unhappiness and hopelessness that drives people to suicide is rarely about fear of starving, or not being able to buy a big enough house, or really anything that money can fix. In light of this, it amazes me that people think that just because someone is rich, they should be happy or less likely to want to end it all.
