Bingo.

Brought to you by the same dickheads that hilariously talk about how they super wouldn't fuck whatever popstar or actress is popular that week because of various superficialities.

Technically I wouldn't fuck any model or actress.
My wife would divorce me.

Side note: Even if I were single, I've learned that if she is an actress and loves singing be prepared for an interesting relationship. When your career involves being the center of attention, you have to have a very specific set of qualities.

At a friends house he had the TV on half watching some older show. An ad came on and everyone in the room burst out laughing when a "model" runs through water on a beach. She was so horrible overweight but insisted on wearing a "bikini".
It gets worse...the next ad is for women that are incontinent and they again need to show a large woman undressed...blah.
The third ad showed a woman shaving their bikini area....TMI.

I didn't realized ads had gotten that bad....long live Netflix.
The best outcome of the pandemic/lockdown for us is that we cut the cord. Life without TV commercials is such a quality of life improvement.

Long live Netflix, Hulu, Prime, and others.

It's funny to see people complaining about the cost of streaming services. I mean, I understand that not paying for something physical stinks, but historical perspective is important in this discussion. Like, I probably pay around $60 a month at this point, which is literally half of what my cable bill was before. As a result:

* I don't have to watch or listen to commercials
* I can buy or rent HD/4K shows on Prime instantly & don't even have to drive to a Redbox location
* Netflix has over 15,000 shows
* Amazon has over 24,000 movies
* Spotify has over 70 million tracks
* Disney+ has 7,000 shows & 500 films (plus all of the categories I like...Star Wars, Marvel, Disney, Pixar, & a huge backlog of Disney stuff)

So basically $15 a week for a huge, ad-free buffet of entertainment with zero work required to just watch something.

Right now, I think that my Verizon subscription comes with "free" Hulu, Disney+, ESPN+, and Discovery+ streaming services. I'm also getting Apple TV+ for "free" as well due to my recent iProduct purchase, but I have zero intention of paying for that once the trial runs out. I'm also paying for Netflix, although the quality of the content recently is making me think that I should cancel that as well.

This makes me wonder some things:

1) Does ANYBODY actually pay the retail price for these services, or are they all using free or discounted promotional bundles like I am?
2) Who's going to be the first streaming service to end their name in ++ to make them sound better than the others? :) (Sorry, geek humor)

Your library may also offer some form of video streaming too, at no additional cost to you.

When I had Netflix, I was paying the regular price (finally dumped it because the price kept climbing to pay for content I didn't care about, and there's a stupid upcharge if you want 4K content), and same with Disney+ (which I only kept long enough to watch the MCU movies, since it was the cheapest way to see all of them).
I use a MVNO for my cell service, so I don't get "extras" like that, and in exchange, my cell phone bill is $32/mo. No unlimited data, but I don't care, because I've never used more than 3GB in a month.

I don't see the model as horribly overweight as the OP says. Not attractive subjectively to me but nothing more than someone who is just more thickly built.

A bit thicker, arguably borderline but you can see indications that she probably does hit the gym.

And some body positivity is good for the mental health of many. Weight shaming is indeed one of the most common weapons of psychological warfare.

I gave up regular TV watching in 1997. Now I just catch up on the popular stuff with Netflix or Amazon or Hulu or whatever. But the only time I see TV commercials is when I'm in a bar or restaurant and I cannot avoid the TV.
And in 2020 I didnt visit any bars or restaurants.

Interesting thread. Did not know the ad landscape was so off the rails. Haven't seen TV ads in years - other than the odd accidental Youtube ad that'll surprise before I ignore it. A shame political correctness is running amok.

The H&M ad, right? With the girl walking on the beach.

She's pretty but do we really need to see her fat jiggling in slow motion?

Fat is just fine and dandy now have you not heard? ;)

Careful or somebody will "cancel" you for pointing out that being 40+ lbs overweight isn't healthy or attractive.

I guess I just don't place "not caring" with "fat acceptance".

One, the concept of "Dad bod" isn't a matter of saying the equivalent of "I can wear a bikini all I want and never feel shameful!" You go girl!

Two, "dad bod" isn't really about being more revealing in general..

I'm MAYBE 5-6 lbs overweight, work out regularly and make an effort to eat healthy most of the time.... STILL not happy with the way I look but a lot of that comes from being nearly 60! (AND being an ugly MF'er!)

Anyone that doesn't have some legitimate health condition keeping them overweight (there are a few) AND especially that is under the age of 30-35 SHOULD be at least a little self-conscious about it... that "shame" = self-preservation!

Fear of heart attack/stroke etc is no different than the fear of being killed by a predator or run over by a bus in terms of staying healthy/alive.

$190B/yr 21% of annual medical spending.

Once you're out of shape, it's tough to get back in shape. Because of the 2 surgeries, it was a full 8 months that I couldn't ride my bike. Gained 20lbs because I can't keep from putting food in my mouth. My 1st ride was a month ago. Holy crap, thought I was going to have a heart attack. Getting better but if I didn't know how my rides were before, I'd be real inclined to stop.

Some of the folks I see around are 20lbs overweight on just their second chin! (and a disturbing number of the fatties are younger folks too)

:p

But yeah I can't seem to drop the last 5-10lbs myself. :confused_old:

Damn, you guys watch commercials?!? Don't you have FF on your remotes?

This is why advertisers love live sports. It's a lot harder to ignore the commercials in the broadcast unless you DVR it. Even then, you risk missing the end of the game/race/whatever because it goes into double overtime or has an extended rain delay.

DVR'ing NASCAR (for example) just doesn't work. The races don't always start on time, and they almost never end on time. Even adding two hours to the recording time often doesn't work.

I've never concerned myself with weight; gaining or losing it. One less thing to waste my mind's time on.

I'm at a weight some women would die for(120-130lb), and it's not a point of pride, but I'm not going to care that I've yet to gain some out of the result of getting ripped.

That is not to say I can't be driven by fear. After dental hell+COVID misery earlier this year, I've attempted to make a commitment to go meat+veggie(not fruits) heavy with occasional binge starch eating only if the day demands it or if the dental cleaning day is the day after.

Yeah, that or the "shame" will help lead to depression which induces a self-perpetuating cycle. Mocking overweight people is generally unhelpful (there is probably a small subset for whom it's an effective deterrent, easily outweighed by those it does further mental damage to). I do think we maybe ought to stop a bit short of full-fledged celebration of being morbidly obese, as some do, but in a society where it's constantly driven in that being fat = being worthless (especially for women), I understand why that could be a reaction to it.

There is chubby people and then there is morbidly obese.
This commercial advertised products for people with a variety of body types including but not limited to people on the chubby side.

How should companies marketing to chubby people advertise their products?

The commercial had a mixture of body types with the lead in being on the larger side but had a face that worked well for the intro.

What should these commercials look like?
If they should not advertise to chub's, how are they supposed to compete with other companies in the same market?

Should they stop selling products that cater to big people? Should they just have a Moo Moo catalog for the women and overalls for the guys?

As for the models, if their niche are for larger size shoots in an overcrowded market is ATOT stating they should abandon their income stream so a bunch of middle aged men can be happy?

This.

I'm sure all the men shitting on women's bodies are all ripped or svelte and toned.

Regardless, there are just different body types. Not all folks that don't fit the perfect body type are gluttonous by any means.

It's a constant battle for me to resist society's indoctrination of my brain that I should demean or consider less of women if they are larger.

To be clear the "shame" I was referring to would be the internal self-inflicted kind and it exists for a purpose. No matter what "spin" is put on it, being overweight is not a positive in any way and should not be treated as one.

However anyone who intentionally shames another person because they're overweight (or really for nearly ANY reason) is pretty much a disgrace themselves.

That is assuming my health insurance rates don't triple to pay for the damage done by a diet consisting of 75% super-sized fast food meals.

I'm down 20 pounds if we're looking at the past 18 months (but I lost all that between January and July of 2020, pretty stable since then).
